Oct. 14, 1951 SPIRITUAL BASES OF WORLD PEACE Acts 17:22-28; Matt. 28:19, 20

God’s People Change Situations Matt. 5 :13 In the history of nations, particularly in the past century, we have seen that when men became Christians and hearts became obedient to Christ the whole na tional aspect was changed. Heathen fanes disappeared. Custom rites were abolished. Lewd songs were no longer sung. Proper clothing was worn. Feasts to false gods were no longer conducted. The presence of God’s people has a holy and a restraining influence and may be seen even in our own country at the present time.

World peace is a fictitious, evanescent specter which never will be realized until the Lord Jesus becomes King, indeed. The nations of the world are anti-Christ. Religion is wanted but not the Lord Jesus. Russia has shut out God and His Word. Italy, France, Spain and other countries have substituted idolatry and become antagonistic to all Christian teaching which virtually shuts out the Lord Jesus Christ as the Saviour of men. Britain and the United States have officially omitted the Lord Jesus from schools, colleges, and many churches. China worships idols. There never can be a union of these minds except around the anti-Christ or God’s Christ. Christ Changes the Heart 2 Cor. 4:6 The eternal life which is God’s gift to every believer removes all barriers which exist between nations, races, lan guages, color, and class. All other kinds of life ¡Separate instead of uniting. The Life that is in Christ Jesus unites. This new life enables the believer to see men and women as God sees them. It enables the believer to worship and love the same God in any country and to care for God’s people of every race. This new life given to the believer in Christ Jesus links that life with every other believer in the world no matter who or where he may be. There is no other union possible except in the anti-Christ. The Holy Spirit Changes the Mind Rom. 12:2 Men’s minds are antagonistic to one another as their desires and ambitions differ. The Russian wants power with oppression. Countries under the domina tion of Rome want obedience with op pression. Scandinavian countries want to be left alone to pursue their peaceful path. The English race wants opportu nity to prosper and promote the welfare of men. None of these are interested in the work of God, the salvation of souls, and the upbuilding of the church. The Holy Spirit of God alone can bring that about in the minds of individuals. God’s Word Changes Men’s Ways Psa. 119:11 Where there is no Bible man’s cruel nature is manifest and is active. Those who reject the teachings of the Scrip ture accept the teachings of the de praved human heart and adopt the ac tivities of the heathen. The rights of human beings and the rights of the property of others disappear when the restraining influence of God’s Word is removed. Men never do good naturally. The bent of the human heart is toward selfishness, cruelty, and lawlessness. When God’s Word enters and is ac cepted by faith, inequalities in society disappear. Differences between families and nations disappear. The Word of God always leads to righteousness and godly actions.

Oct. 21, 1951 THE CHURCH LOOKS AT THE U.N. (World Order Sunday) Phil. 2:1-11

It is to be deeply regretted that the U.N. exists as a godless institution seeking to obtain God’s blessing of peace. It was our own representative who became the hindrance and the one to prevent any expression of the living God in the constitution of the U.N. This group is composed of godless men who give no place to Christ Jesus, the King of kings, and no heed to the Word of God which would enlighten their minds. We need never expect that these men will find a solution for world prob lems while the One who made the world is shut out of their counsels. Only men of God know the will of God. Leaders Should Have the Mind of Christ 1 Cor. 2:16 Christ Jesus is the Prince of peace. He made peace by the blood of His cross. He sent out His servants “ preach ing peace by Jesus Christ.” When He was born the heavenly song was about peace on earth. As He left this scene, He gave His benediction, “ Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you.” After His resurrection He showed them His precious person and said, “ Peace be unto you.” Those who yield their heart’s affections and their mind’s meditations to this living Christ find that His mind and thoughts will bring about God’s peace and will promote peace and good will among men. Only the Lord Jesus will ever bring about this condition. Leaders Should Have the Love of God in Their Hearts Rom. 5:5 The love of God knows no selfishness. God’s love is never cruel nor evil. God’s love is not self-seeking and knows no avarice. “ God so loved the world . . .” and He made no distinction nor differ ence. He loved the world in order to give them Christ His Son. His love leads to forgiving and forgetting when men receive Christ Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. The love of God never leads to oppression nor to vain philosophies cruelly imposed. When God’s love fills the heart of our leaders then and only then will we have justice.
