– Be a source of wisdom and support to their mentee – Remain accessible throughout the mentee’s sign-off period as an Instructor- Member-In-Training – Provide each mentee with the opportunity to have at least two mentoring follow-up conversations – If the individual sign-off requirements do not require enhanced check-ins at specific points, these should ideally either follow each of the mentee’s first two co- deliveries or the first conversation should take place no later than three months after the end of the delivered days and the second conversation around the six month mark of the sign-off period. Follow-up conversations after each co-delivery should support mentees in their course delivery reflections and self- evaluation, and include discussion of any further sign-off requirements which may need to be completed. If the individual sign-off requirements do require enhanced check-ins at specific points, but the mentee has not completed any co-deliveries within three/six months, NT mentors should contact the mentee to organise a standard progress check-in. Follow-up conversations at the three/ six month intervals where relevant co- deliveries have not yet taken place should help ensure the mentee is appropriately prepared for their upcoming co-deliveries and progressing on their sign-off journey. – Provide advice to their mentee if/when they encounter challenges in their course co-deliveries – Be responsive to communications from their mentee – It is expected that National Trainers will respond to communications from their
mentees as soon as possible, and at the latest within five working days – Where the National Trainer is on holiday or uncontactable for any reason, they will set an out of office outlining the expected response time – For long term periods of absence (more than one month) the National Trainer mentor will provide the mentee with contact details for the other National Trainer who delivered the course to the same cohort – Assess the quality of the mentee’s portfolio and make recommendations regarding their sign-off as a fully trained and approved Instructor Member – As best practice, National Trainer mentors should communicate with their mentee by email and ensure that any mentoring telephone conversations are followed up with an email summary to the mentee Mentors are not expected to: – Provide mentees with practical business development support – Provide mentoring or coaching support to the Instructor Member once the mentoring relationship has concluded (once the mentee has achieved sign-off approval). Approved Instructor Members should contact instructorsupport@ mhfaengland.org in the first instance for support with any queries or concerns Mentee requirements As mentees, Instructor-Members-In-Training are expected to: – Understand and follow the minimum sign-off process and requirements for all Instructor-Members-In-Training
