The Lakes South Morang College respectfully acknowledges that beneath the significant River Red Gums that feature across our school's landscape lay the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri-Willam people of the Kulin Nation. Having now completed my first term at The Lakes, I would like to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to our wonderful community. It has been an absolute pleasure meeting so many students, families and staff members over the past few months. From my very first day, I have been warmly welcomed and supported, and I have quickly come to appreciate the strong sense of belonging that exists within our school. As we begin Term 4, I would like to extend a very warm welcome back to all our students, families and staff. I hope everyone enjoyed a restful and enjoyable holiday break, with opportunities to relax, recharge and spend quality time with family and friends. School holidays often provide a valuable chance to reflect on achievements, celebrate successes and prepare for the exciting opportunities that lie ahead. We are delighted to have our students back at school, ready for another term of learning, growth and celebration.

The Lakes South Morang College Newsletter PRINCIPAL REPORT

One of the things that has stood out most to me is the positive and caring culture that is evident throughout the school. Every day I have witnessed students demonstrating kindness, respect and enthusiasm for learning. I have enjoyed visiting classrooms, attending school events and seeing first-hand the many ways our students embrace opportunities to challenge themselves, support one another and achieve success. The Lakes is truly a happy and vibrant community, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of it. Thank you to everyone for your kindness, support and warm welcome throughout my first term. Term 4 is always one of the most exciting times of the school year. There is a real sense of energy and anticipation as students continue to build on their learning and prepare to celebrate the many accomplishments of the year. While it is our final term, it is certainly one of our busiest, filled with opportunities for students to showcase their talents, reflect on their growth and enjoy many memorable experiences with their peers. As always, there are many exciting events and activities planned over the coming weeks. To ensure you stay informed about everything that is happening across the school, I encourage all families to regularly check Compass and read our newsletters. These communication platforms provide important information about upcoming events, key dates, excursions, celebrations and school notices. With so much happening throughout the term, keeping up to date will help ensure that no one misses out on the many wonderful opportunities available. One of the highlights of Term 4 is the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our students. Throughout the year, students have worked incredibly hard in their learning, developing new skills, building confidence and demonstrating resilience. Term 4 provides us with many occasions to recognise these accomplishments and reflect on the progress that has been made. Whether in the classroom, on the sporting field, through the arts or in leadership roles, our students continue to make us proud every day. We are particularly looking forward to a number of significant events, including our graduation celebrations and the awards night. These occasions provide meaningful opportunities to acknowledge student achievement, effort and growth, while also recognising the strong partnerships between home and school that help support student success.

Graduations are always a special milestone, allowing us to celebrate students as they prepare for their next chapter, while awards nights give us the chance to recognise the dedication and achievements of students across the school. As we move through the term, we will also be taking time to celebrate the amazing learning that has taken place throughout 2026. Our students have embraced new challenges, developed important skills and demonstrated a commitment to their learning that deserves recognition. We look forward to sharing many of these successes with our community through classroom showcases, student work displays, performances and celebrations. These moments remind us of the incredible progress our students make when they are supported by dedicated staff and engaged families. While Term 4 is undoubtedly busy, it is also a time for reflection and gratitude. It is an opportunity to acknowledge the collective efforts of students, families and staff who work together to create such a positive and successful learning environment. The strength of our community is one of our greatest assets, and it is wonderful to see the pride, care and commitment that people bring to our school each day. I truly encourage all students to make the most of every opportunity. Continue to challenge yourselves, strive for your personal best and approach each day with curiosity and enthusiasm. There is still so much to learn, achieve and celebrate before the end of the school year. Thank you once again for the warm welcome I have received during my first term at The Lakes. I am excited to continue working alongside our students, families and staff as we enjoy all that Term 4 has to offer. I look forward to celebrating the many achievements, milestones and memorable moments that await us in the weeks ahead. Wishing everyone a fantastic start to Term 4. Here's to a successful, rewarding and celebration-filled final term of 2026.

As we move into Term 4, we welcome one of the most rewarding and exciting times of the school year. It is a Term filled with opportunities for students to consolidate their learning, celebrate achievements, showcase talents and prepare confidently for the next stage of their educational journey. As a SunSmart Term, we ask families to support students by ensuring hats are worn each day and that they come prepared for warmer weather. These sun-safe habits allow students to continue enjoying the many outdoor learning experiences and events that make Term 4 so memorable. Throughout the Term, students will participate in a rich range of learning opportunities within and beyond the classroom. Students in Years 5 and 6 will take centre stage during the Performing Arts Showcase, celebrating their creativity, confidence and dedication while sharing their talents with the wider school community. Students across the Campus will also enjoy a range of excursions, camps and special events. Highlights include the Year 3 and 4 Camp, Prep excursion to Bundoora Farm, Year 1 excursion to the Pevan and Sarah Concert, Year 3 IMAX excursion, Year 3 and 4 Soccer Gala Day and the Year 2 Sleepover. Term 4 is also an important time of transition. We look forward to welcoming future students through the 2027 Prep Transition Program, while our Year 6 students will participate in a comprehensive Orientation Program to support their move into Secondary school. We will also celebrate their achievements at Year 6 Graduation, recognising their growth and contributions to the Primary Campus. As the year draws to a close, students will participate in Team Dream and our reimagined Night Under the Stars celebration. This year, the event will become a daytime experience across the Secondary Campus, giving Primary students the opportunity to enjoy the outstanding facilities while taking part in a range of engaging performances. It will also be a time for students to reflect on their learning, celebrate their growth and prepare confidently for their next year level. Looking ahead, our College will commence its upcoming Review Cycle, providing an opportunity to reflect on our achievements, celebrate progress and identify future priorities. Through collaboration with students, staff, families and the broader school community, we will continue to strengthen our practices and provide high-quality learning opportunities for every student. The Lakes South Morang College Newsletter CAMPUS REPORT

SECONDARY REPORT RENEE SHORT SECONDARY CAMPUS PRINCIPAL

Term 4 is always an exciting and significant time on the Secondary Campus. It is a term that brings together the culmination of a year’s learning, important milestones for our senior students, opportunities to celebrate achievement and, importantly, preparation for a successful transition into 2027. For our Year 12 students, the opening weeks of the term mark the final stage of their secondary schooling. We will celebrate their contribution to The Lakes with Year 12 Celebration Day on Tuesday 20 October, before students move into the VCAA examination period. Later in the term, Year 12 Graduation on Thursday 19 November will provide another important opportunity for students, families and staff to recognise and celebrate this significant milestone. Assessment and demonstrating learning growth will also be an important focus across the campus. Year 11 examinations commence during Week 7, followed by Year 10 examinations from 25–27 November and Year 9 examination days on 2–3 December. Years 7 and 8 students will also complete English and Mathematics assessments as part of our end-of-year assessment program. These opportunities allow students to demonstrate what they know and can do while providing teachers with valuable evidence of learning and growth. Importantly, Term 4 is not simply about finishing 2026—it is also about getting a head start on 2027. Our Step Up program will see Year 12 Step Up run from 23–26 November, followed by Year 11 Step Up from 30 November– 3 December. This provides students with the opportunity to commence their new programs, establish expectations and begin building momentum for the year ahead. Our younger secondary students will similarly begin looking towards their next year of learning. Transition Week for Years 7–10 will take place in Week 10, alongside the Year 7 Statewide Orientation Day for our incoming Year 7 students. We are particularly looking forward to welcoming our 2027 Year 7 cohort and helping them begin to feel connected, confident and ready for secondary school. There will also be plenty of opportunities for students to finish the year by connecting with their peers and celebrating their achievements. Week 10 includes the Year 9 City Experience ‘Amazing Race’, while Years 7 and 8 will move into an alternative timetable as the year concludes. Funfields will provide another end-of-year experience for Years 7 and 8 in our final week. Behind the scenes, our staff will also be undertaking significant work throughout the term. Our School Review, professional learning, Facilitated Conversations, assessment and moderation, and extensive 2027 curriculum and class planning will ensure we continue to reflect on our practice and strengthen the learning experience we provide for every student. Finally, we will come together for one of the highlights of our school calendar, Awards Night at 6:30pm during the final week, celebrating the academic achievement, growth, contribution and success of our students. Reports for Prep–Year 11 will also be published before the end of the school year. Term 4 promises to be incredibly busy, but also enormously rewarding. We look forward to working alongside our students and families as we finish 2026 strongly, celebrate what has been achieved and set our students up for a successful 2027.

YEAR 7

As we head into Term 4, our Year 7 students are approaching the final chapter of their first year of secondary school. It has been a year full of new experiences, challenges, friendships and opportunities to grow, and we look forward to seeing students finish the year with confidence and pride. For the first four weeks of Term 4, the Year 7 cohort will participate in an engaging Project ROCKIT incursion, exploring important topics including respectful relationships, inclusion, communication, identity and building positive school communities. These sessions will provide students with valuable opportunities to reflect, connect and strengthen their relationships with one another. We will also be celebrating our second Performing Arts Showcase of the year, with 7C taking to the stage to share their performance with our school community. We are excited to see students showcase their creativity, teamwork and developing performance skills. Term 4 will be a wonderful opportunity for our Year 7 students to reflect on how far they have come since beginning secondary school and to celebrate their achievements throughout the year. We look forward to finishing the year together on a positive note and seeing our Year 7s continue to grow as confident, connected and capable members of our school community. Term 4 is a defining moment for our VCE cohorts. Year 12 graduates will sit final VCE exams, eagerly awaiting ATAR scores and early entry offers to tertiary studies. Their term culminates in celebration day activities and graduation—a proud recognition of their journey.

YEAR 11 & 12

Our Year 11 students step into leadership roles, intensifying their academic focus across all subjects as they prepare for their own VCE pathway. Beginning Unit 3 classes before the end of the academic year.

Awards Night celebrates outstanding academic excellence across both cohorts in all VCE subject areas. As exam results arrive and the anticipation of work, TAFE and university offers increases, our VCE community reflects on growth, celebrates success, and anticipates the exciting futures ahead. Term 4 is about closure, achievement, and new beginnings.

The Lakes South Morang College Newsletter SCHOOL COUNCIL REPORT

Dear Families,

A warm welcome back to Term 4! I hope everyone enjoyed the September school holidays and had the opportunity to relax, recharge and make the most of the sunnier weather. Whether it was spending time outdoors, exploring new places, catching up with family and friends, or simply enjoying a slower pace, I hope the break provided some downtime. There is always plenty happening in Term 4, with highlights including our Year 12 celebrations and graduation, Awards Night, the traditional Year 6 Funfields excursion, Year 6 Graduation and Night Under the Stars concert. Our Year 12 students will also be busy preparing for and sitting their VCE exams, an important milestone after years of hard work and dedication. While it’s certainly a big term, it’s also one filled with opportunities to celebrate achievements. In Week 1 of this term, our parent/carer volunteers will be finalising our Cadbury Chocolate Drive, so I hope everyone has had the chance to return their orders. We are incredibly grateful for the time and effort our volunteers contribute to making these initiatives a success. Excitingly, we are also busy planning and preparing the 2027 Welcome BBQ, to be held on Friday 5 February. This has to be one of our favourite events to organise. The BBQ is a fun afternoon for all of our students and a wonderful opportunity to bring together our entire school community, including students, families, staff and our principals. It is always a fantastic way to welcome new families, reconnect after the summer break and build relationships across our school community. Term 4 is the time of year when School Council begins looking ahead and planning for the year to come. Over the coming months, Council will consider budget opportunities for how School Council initiative funds might be invested back into the school. This may include exploring potential facility improvements and other projects that could enhance our learning environment and benefit students. If any major projects or opportunities arise, we will be sure to keep families updated. We greatly appreciate the support of our families and community members. Your involvement helps create the welcoming, connected and vibrant school environment we are proud of. We wish everyone a wonderful start to Term 4!

Cheers,

ROAD SAFETY AROUND THE LAKES SOUTH MORANG COLLEGE The Lakes South Morang College is situated near busy roads with heavy traffic throughout the day, with particular attention to the front of our school, where we have several busy intersections and shared pathways with Coles, Collingwood Language School, Merriang SDS and the Kinder. We strongly remind all families that students must always use the designated school crossings. We are increasingly noticing students exiting or entering vehicles while crossing or weaving through traffic, which poses a serious risk. Please use the designated drop-off zones and encourage your child to cross only at supervised crossings. Holding your child’s hand near roads and vehicles is a simple but effective way to support their safety. Please also take the time to talk with your child about how to stay safe near parked cars, footpaths, and driveways.

YEAR 5/6 NOTEBOOK PROGRAM - 2026/27 We’re writing to inform you of an important change to our technology program for Year 5 and 6 students starting in 2026. After careful consideration and in consultation with the School Council and broader school community, The Lakes South Morang College has made the decision to transition from iPads to Windows touchscreen notebook computers for students in Years 5 and 6. This move aligns our Primary and Secondary learning experiences and brings our technology use in line with most primary schools across Victoria, who have already adopted Windows-based programs. It also ensures our students are better prepared for the digital expectations of Year 7 and beyond. Why Are We Transitioning to Notebooks? While iPads have served many learning purposes, they are limited in supporting the broader skills needed in upper primary and secondary education. Windows-based touchscreen notebooks: Offer a full desktop computing experience Support keyboard proficiency and multitasking Provide compatibility with the software and systems used from Year 7 onwards Offer improved file management, software flexibility, and better integration with our college systems Devices purchased through our approved portals will be

supported at The Lakes in Years 7 and beyond. Support stylus use for handwriting and drawing
