An Avoidable Disaster
Harold sees the connection between fleet safety and disaster recovery very clearly.
He points to Hurricane Katrina, when private dump trucks arrived in affected areas to help with cleanup. Those trucks broke down, and repairs often had to happen wherever crews could manage them—on roadsides, in lots and far from controlled shop environments.
“Each one of those repairs could have ended up being a failure and a death,” he says.
It is why he has begun using a phrase that captures his view of Bedlock better than any technical specification:
“An avoidable disaster.”
He is not talking about the hurricane. He is talking about the person underneath the truck.
