PROSTHETICS FOR RUNNING AND WALKING Prosthetics are artificial devices, such as limbs, while orthotics are devices that are worn to correct a variety of ankle or foot problems. Orthotics are often customized and inserted into shoes. Sometimes a combination of both a prosthetic and an orthotic will be needed to make sure you can run or walk as comfortably and efficiently as possible. Why You Need Proper Prosthetics The energy needed to walk or run with an artificial device is considerably more than what is required without one. This makes it crucial that both prosthetics and orthotics are fitted properly and maintained on a regular basis. The prosthetic socket fit is especially important for having a wide range of mobility and being able to function at your highest level. Even if you have the most advanced prosthetic, if it isn’t fitted properly it will be difficult to run or even walk.
