LEARN: STRESSANDRESILIENCE TIMWIDDOWSON INSTRUCTOR, NEWLEAF HEALTH

Tim specialises in mental health training and resilience building for employees and employers in corporate and public sectors.

Tim explored the personal definition of stress, identifying signs and symptoms that we may experience if stressed, and understanding the health risks of short- and long-term stress.

Attendees would understand their personal vulnerability to stress and in identifying things that cause stress they could manage these via a range of healthy coping strategies.

As part of Tim’s session, attendees were able to download a handout which enabled them to evaluate stress, engage in assessments, and perform activities.

NETWORKINGOPPORTUNITIES At lunchtime each day CIPP staff hosted ‘rooms’ for attendees to meet and catch-up. The CIPP hosts were: Dawn Baxter ACIPP, membership manager; Joanne Hudson BA (Hons), marketing manager, and Dr Sue Smith EdD MA BEd FHEA FCMI Cmgr Assoc CIPD, education director.

Q&AWITHHMRC In this session, conducted by Gemma Mullis ACIPP, CIPP policy and research officer, Colin Shingler, head of the customer engagement team at HMRC and Angela MacDonald CBE, HMRC, answered questions posed by attendees. Colin has responsibility for stakeholder engagement across intermediaries including employers, payroll, paid agents, voluntary and community sector and small business.

ROUNDTABLES There were four roundtable sessions, running concurrently on both days. The discussion topics comprised: ● Merits of outsourcing or bringing payroll in-house ● Covid-19 experiences general discussions ● Covid-19 experiences of those working in the pensions sector ● The future of payroll – how Covid-19 and technology will change payroll

Following the closure of each roundtable, Jason Davenport MCIPP MIoD, CIPP chair, lead a round-up of the discussions summarised by the hosts of the roundtables.
