Des pistes cyclables dans La Nation

Nous encourageons la connectivité entre les communautés rurales en réduisant ainsi l’isolement. » Les chemins municipaux de La Nation seront donc élargis et asphaltés afin de faire place aux utilisateurs des pistes cyclables. Il y aura six boucles, ou circuits, sur le territoire de La Nation. « Les travaux ont déjà débuté, a expliquéMarc Legault, directeur des Tra- vaux publics pour La Nation et membre du comité. La boucle n uméro 1 devrait être entièrement asphaltée pour son inaugura- tion du 15 août. Ensuite, nous travaillerons sur les autres, en commençant par l’Est, soit les boucles 5 et 6, les chemins Saint-Isidore et Calédonia. » Le comité fera une demande auministère des Transports de l’Ontario afin de recevoir un octroi de 258 500 $. « Il y aura de la signa- lisation sur toutes les pistes cyclables afin de sensibiliser les automobilistes à faire atten- tion. Les côtés appartiendront aux cyclistes ou marcheurs », a ajouté Marc Laflèche, conseiller et membre du comité. Selon les membres du comité Transport Actif de La Nation, les six boucles devraient être complétées d’ici cinq ou dix ans.
C’est le 15 août prochain, au Centre com- munautaire de Saint-Albert, que sera inau- gurée la boucle cyclable numéro 1, appelée la voie lactée, la première de six circuits dans La Nation. Les cyclistes, patineurs et autres sont donc invités, dès 9 h, au Centre commu- nautaire de Saint-Albert, à assister à l’ouver- ture officielle de cette boucle pour ensuite prendre part à la randonnée de 21 km. Ce projet mijote depuis longtemps dans la tête des conseillers de La Nation, et c’est le 27 juillet dernier, lors de l’assemblée du conseil, qu’a été adoptée la création du co- mité Transport Actif de La Nation. Le but de ce comité? Créer des boucles, ou pistes cyclables qui relieront plusieurs villages de La Nation. La Corporation du sentier récréa- tif de Prescott-Russell encourage la création de circuits cyclables dans chaquemunicipa- lité de Prescott-Russell. Elle conseille donc l’asphaltage des accotements des chemins municipaux de La Nation dans le but d’éta- blir des boucles cyclables dans chacun des quartiers qui se rattachent à un chemin de comté, dans le but d’assurer la connectivité entre ses communautés. Health agency seeks new blood on boards More people with relatives receiving long-term and other types of special health care are wanted on the advisory boards for the Champlain Local Health Integration Network (LHIN). That is one of the main points highlighted in a report to the Champlain LHIN board on its Regional Planning and Com- munity Engagement Activity (RPCEA) program for the 2014-2015 fiscal year. The report noted that, during the past year of operations, the LHIN, through its board members and health services staff, made contact with more than 8000 people within the Champlain health region through advisory committees, one-time meetings, special information gatherings on issues like diabetes and mental health, and also ongoing consultations with patients, family members, and others. Close to 40 per cent of the LHIN’s community contacts during the past operations year involved the general public, compared to 18 per cent the previous year and the board wants to see that percentage increase even more. The plan for the next fiscal year calls for increasing the number of family members and people receiving health care services on the LHIN’s advisory committees. – Gregg Chamberlain
