Headteacher’s Welcome I am delighted to welcome you to Alderwasley Hall School. We are exceptionally proud of every aspect of our school and homes, from the academic and social achievement of our learners, to the outstanding specialist intervention and support we can provide for young people in our classes and our care. We specialise in working with young people with Autism and Developmental Language Disorder. We have over 30 years of nationally recognised skill and experience within the educational field of Autism and Communication and our team of Therapists, including Mental Health Practitioners, is one of the largest in any school across the country. Our underpinning ethos of “Unconditional Positive Regard and fulfilment in life” guides all that we do and our outstanding outcomes, we believe, speak for themselves. We provide each young person with academic and social challenge through highly personalised, creatively designed programmes and curricula along with an extremely strong, well-established pastoral system of support, care and guidance. I am extremely proud to be the Head Teacher of our school, a school which I believe, gives young people an exceptional chance to fulfil their academic, social and independence potential. Whilst I know that you will find the information in our prospectus interesting and informative, nothing gives you a better insight into the true ethos of a school and home than seeing it for yourself. Aims and Outcomes For our students to reach their full potential and to feel an integrated and valued member of society. We do this by: • Giving students a sense of belonging • Developing a sense of productivity • Promoting emotional and physical wellbeing
Curriculum Our curriculum is based on the National Curriculum, with students achieving qualifications leading to their chosen next steps. It’s adapted to meet the individual needs of students, and Therapies are integrated throughout. The school is rated Outstanding by Ofsted. The curriculum is designed to support every learner’s journey from early education through to preparation for adulthood.
Primary Phase Lays the foundations for lifelong learning, focusing on communication, cognition, physical development and emotional wellbeing. It offers a broad and balanced education, enriched by therapeutic support, and promotes curiosity and independence. Secondary Phase Students follow a curriculum broadly aligned with the national model, working towards accredited outcomes such as GCSEs and Functional Skills. Learning pathways are personalised to ensure meaningful progress. Therapeutic input supports emotional development and readiness for adulthood.
Therapies & Specialist Services Our Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Mental Health Practitioners provide tailored interventions within the school day, reducing barriers to learning and promoting independence. Therapy is delivered in classrooms, specialist spaces and throughout the school environment. The Health Promotions Team oversees healthcare planning and medication management, offering expert advice and practical support for health-related matters. Our Student Wellbeing Officer is available throughout the day to provide immediate support and guidance. They also care for our much-loved school dog, Bramble. Post-16 Phase The post-16 curriculum prepares students for life beyond school, offering a variety of courses including vocational qualifications and life skills programmes. It focuses on independence, communication and wellbeing, equipping learners with the skills and confidence needed for further education, employment or supported living.
Residential
Our childrens’ homes are more than places to
live; they are nurturing environments where every young person feels valued, respected and empowered. We provide a warm and welcoming environment with an emphasis on improving independence, choice-making and daily living skills.
Each young person benefits from a personalised programme of meaningful recreational experiences both on-site and in the local and wider community.
Referrals & Assessments We’re able to offer a range of placement options, including day and flexible 38-week to 52-week residential placements. We offer a free, no-obligation suitability assessment. Parents & Carers We recognise the vital role that parents and carers play in a student’s placement and we pride ourselves on the excellent links we nurture with parents and carers. We offer regular advice and guidance for parents and carers to support their child at home in order to ensure the very best outcomes.
