Paquette and Andre Chamaillard launched the annual country music festival to provide residents and visitors to Hawkesbury another reason to patronize the downtown area, and also help develop the municipality`s tourism sector. Both Paquette and Chamaillard have been involved with lobbying for municipal council`s support of the festival during their terms as councillors. They are both stepping down now from council and not running for reelection in October, but Paquette indicated he would be willing to continue as one of the festival`s official representatives to council. “I wouldn`t mind doing it,” he said.
It was a hot weekend for country music at the Hawkesbury Country Blues Festival. The weather for the July 24 weekend was sunny and very warm for Hawkesbury`s annual country music festival and that meant a good audience turnout at the Place des Pionniers.
“It was very good,” said Yves Paquette, one of the co-founders of the annual music festival. “There was a lot of people coming and going. VEHICLE THEFT Hawkesbury OPP arrested a person from Laval, Quebec, on a variety of charges after recovering a stolen vehicle July 30. Police used a tire deflation device, also known as a “spike belt”, to stop the vehicle when the driver refused to stop for police. The driver is charged with motor vehicle theft, fleeing from police, dangerous driving, possession of stolen property, and also other provin- cial traffic act charges. The suspect was kept in police custody under a bail hearing was scheduled - Gregg Chamberlain DRUNK DRIVING A traffic accident July 21 in Alfred-Plan- tagenet Township resulted in charges against one of the drivers. Police filed charges of impaired driving and of driving with a blood-alcohol level excee- ding the legal limit. The driver’s vehicle was impounded for seven days and a provincial court appearance scheduled for August 12. - Gregg Chamberlain ARSON CHARGES Police have charged a person following investigation of a number of cases of suspicious fires in Hawkesbury and the surrounding area. The Hawkesbury OPP detachment received numerous reports just after 8:30 a.m., July 19, about a series of suspected arsons in the area. The alleged suspect was detained until a bail hearing could be scheduled. Charges against the person include, arson involving danger to human life, arson causing property damage, possession of incendiary materials, dan- gerous driving, and also drug trafficking related offences. - Gregg Chamberlain

Le maire Robert Lefebvre a reçu les félicitations et les remerciements des DPOTFJMMFSTNVOJDJQBVYQPVSBWPJSSÊVTTJ à conclure un accord avec les CUPR qui aidera la municipalité à bénéficier d’une aide pour l’entretien et l’amélioration futurs de Main Street. Au cours de l’année écoulée, le maire Lefebvre a fait pression sur les CUPR pour que celle-ci envisage d’intégrer Main Street à son réseau routier départemental. L’accord « Connecting Link » (LCL) est la proposition alternative des CUPR. Depuis avril de l’année dernière, Hawkes- bury a fait pression sur les CUPR pour que celle-ci intègre un tronçon d’environ trois kilomètres de Main Street à son réseau officiel de routes de comté, en faisant valoir RVF.BJO4USFFUFTUVOBYFEFUSBOTQPSU régional reliant la route de comté 4 à ses EFVYJOUFSTFDUJPOT ÆMFTUFUÆMPVFTU Æ l’intérieur des limites de la ville, et qu’elle constitue une artère collectrice majeure au sein du réseau routier régional. Les CUPR prendront en charge une partie des coûts avec la municipalité pour
