La fondation a approuvé une subvention de 20 334,35 $ au Service des incendies pour l›achat d›un nouvel outil combiné Hurst, un dispositif de désincarcération utilisé pour forcer ou ouvrir des véhi- cules endommagés ou forcer l›ouverture des portes pour sauver des personnes coincées à l›intérieur des bâtiments. – Gregg Chamberlain STUNT DRIVER A 33-year-old driver from Montréal-Nord, Québec, is charged with driving at excessive speed, also known as “stunt driving” under Ontario traffic rules, and with driving without a licence. He was charged, December 10, after he was caught in an OPP radar checkstop on St-Guillaume Road in Vars. His driver’s licence was suspended on-site for seven days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.– Gregg Chamberlain CELLPHONE AID The United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) will provide its full share of support for a project to improve cellular phone service in Eastern Onta- rio. The $213 million Eastern Ontario Regional Network Mobile Broadband Project (EORN) is a joint effort by senior governments, the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus, and the private sector to provide 100-per cent full cellular service coverage for Eastern Ontario to promote economic development and eliminate service gaps, which pose public safety problems. UCPR council approved Bylaw 2019061 confirming its $683,085 share in the project be paid “in full” during the first year of the project launch.– Gregg Chamberlain SIKH PARAMEDICS The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) is lobbying the provincial government to amend its uniform guide- lines regarding paramedic personnel, to allow male paramedics to have beards. The regulation will ensure that Sikhs who work as paramedics in Ontario will be able to fulfill all their duties on the job. Devout and practicing Sikh men have full beards.– Gregg Chamberlain

The end of the year is almost here and Russell Township Council agreed with a recommendation from Finance Director Richard Godin. If there is any surplus money left from the 2019 budget at the start of January next year, it will go towards paying down the unfinanced portion of the municipal sports dome. The unfinanced portion of the dome will be almost $300,000 by the end of December 2020. —archives
