Student Doctor Support at the GPFD Service We have also continued to work closely with the University of East Anglia’s School of Medicine to support the placements of medical students in the Rapid Diagnostic Service and General Practice at the Front Door services. We host medical students throughout the academic year, which has benefitted the medical students in their learning pathway and supports Primary Care workforce resilience into the future. 2.24 The Norfolk Research Hub Every medicine, treatment pathway and healthcare intervention is underpinned by research. The Norfolk Research Hub exists to ensure that patients across Norfolk and Waveney have equitable access to research opportunities, including those registered with practices that do not have their own research infrastructure. Working collaboratively with both research-active and non-research- active practices, the Hub enables patients to participate in high-quality clinical research closer to home whilst supporting the development of research capability across primary care. During 2025/26, the Research Hub expanded its network to 15 practices serving approximately 150,000 patients across Norfolk and Waveney. This growth has significantly increased opportunities for patient participation regardless of practice registration and has strengthened the region’s capacity to deliver both commercial and non-commercial studies. The Hub successfully delivered a diverse portfolio of studies during the year. Key achievements included:
• Successful completion of the OptiZest study. • Delivery of the INDIGO study across multiple practices, increasing opportunities for patients to participate in large-scale research. • Establishment of dedicated DURATION-UTI clinics to support recruitment into an important antimicrobial stewardship study. • Selection for delivery of the commercial MOVe-NOW study, with 23 participants recruited within the first month of activation, demonstrating the Hub's ability to mobilise rapidly and deliver complex studies efficiently.
These studies have provided local patients with access to innovative treatments and research opportunities, while contributing to the evidence base that informs future healthcare delivery.
