Alison Fleming

Alison arrived in 2009 to take over the Headship of the Junior School from Penny Horsman. Immediately she imposed her strong will and character on the Junior School and established herself as a very forthright, honest and frank Head of the Junior School. She made changes that did not necessarily agree with the more conservative elements of the Junior School, but paved the way to making some key appointments to develop the school to comply with her educational vision. She was soon appointed Head of Newton During her time at the College, she became a key member of the Senior Management Team and her good humour and high principles were invariably involved in discussions and in enforcing change. More than anything else, she raised the level of academic expectations of her boys and her staff. Prep School and was rightly recognised as being a leader with inspirational qualities.

Sunil Talwar

Sunil Talwar arrived at the College in September 2008 fresh from a PGCE course. His past work had always involved Mathematics, from his PhD at York 16 years earlier to more recent work designing algorithms in binary arithmetic, the algorithms for which were incorporated into the PlayStation 3 – something which did no harm to his reputation among the boys. He quickly established himself as a teacher with a real passion for the subject, always expecting boys to think for themselves and go the extra mile with a problem, persevering no matter how tough the work. The last year of his time here was increasingly frenetic, commuting back to Switzerland and his family every weekend. It was no great surprise therefore when he got a job in the country, leaving us for Surval Montreux. The College has many good memories of Sunil and we wish him and his family all the best.

CHRIS OTTEWILL

Rose originally was appointed a Deputy Master Pastoral’s secretary in 2002 and was quickly seized upon by Graham Able to become the Master’s PA, once Ros Uddin had relinquished the post to move on to work at DUCKS. Rose was always recognised as being highly efficient and effective in her administration and enjoyed her position as the Master’s PA in dealing with all those who came through that office: parents, staff, boys and governors, let alone the countless official visitors. Her relationship with staff was always positive and she was known for her honesty and integrity. Rose emanated immense charm and warmth and will no doubt carry these qualities forward in her new role as Executive Assistant to the Director of UCL Estates. SIMON NORTHCOTE-GREEN
