October is Child Abuse Prevention Month andValoris for Children andAdults of Pres- cott-Russll is asking everyone to make a fashion statement of support by wearing something purple on Oct. 17. The recent OPP announcement of arrests as police broke up a large-scale child por- nography ring operating in several of On- tario’s smaller communities has highlighted the issue of child abuse in Canada and the need for vigilance against those who ex- ploit children and abuse them, whether sexually, physically, or mentally. Valoris officials noted in a press release that 37 per cent of their own investigation files end up transferred to long-term child protection services. During the 2013-2014 fiscal operating year Valoris offered child protection services to 674 families with

concerns about either child abuse or neg- lect. “We take this opportunity,” states the re- lease,“to stress the importance of commun- ity involvement in providing children with quality services that offer protection and security while supporting their families. It is important to remember that Ontarians have a moral duty and a legal obligation to promptly report suspected abuse or neg- lect of a child.” On Oct. 17 Valoris officials ask Pres- cott-Russell residents and businesses to dis- play purple, either as part of their attire or store décor, to show solidarity and support for child abuse prevention programs and

Pour Mélodie Denis, élève-artiste à l’École secondaire catholique de Casselman (ESCC), une grande œuvre signifie une œuvre à grande échelle. Son tableau intitulé Cauchemar lui a permis de remporter le 3e prix junior du Concours de l’œuvre à l’expo 2014, organisé par l’Association francophone pour l’éducation artistique en Ontario (AFEO), en partenariat avec le Bureau des regroupements des artistes visuels de l’Ontario (BRAVO) et le ministère de l’Éducation de l’Ontario. Pour créer son tableau, Mélodie s’est inspirée du Pop Art, mouvement artistique populaire du milieu des années 1950 et popularisé par Andy Warhol, Claies Oldenburg et Roy Lichtenstein. Son tableau est fièrement exposé sur les murs de l’ESCC.
