Studies have proven that children who enter kindergarten already able to recognize letters, connect them to sounds, and identify simple sight words have a greater chance of
success throughout their school years. But even before they can read independently, children can (and should) build those essential pre-reading skills that lay the foundation for classroom success such as connecting words to familiar objects, expanding vocabulary, and developing awareness of print. Even simple activities like recognizing rhyming words or clapping out syllables can make a big difference in a child’s literacy development.
