which comes when a soul has been in touch with the living God. David’s whole being was saturated with praise because he spent so much of his time meditating on the great ness of God. As we have our summertime vacations, whether by seashore or on moun tain tops or in the forests, let us take time to draw apart each day with Him for com munion and reflection upon the greatness of our Lord. W e shall remember that he said to the sea, "Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further”; that “he stood, and measured the earth . . . and the everlasting mountains were scattered”; that “the trees of the Lord are full of sap”; that “he telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names." Oh, “great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised”! Helps for the Leader I. R ecrea tion J u stified There is a beautiful and picturesque legend relating to the Apostle John. He had a tame partridge which he cherished much, and he amused himself with feeding and tending it, A certain huntsman, passing by with his bow and arrow, was astonished to see the great apostle, so venerable for his age and sanctity, engaged in an amusement of this kind. The apostle asked him whether he always kept his bow bent. He answered that in that way it would be rendered use less. “If,” replied John, “you unbend your bow to prevent its being useless, so do I unbend my mind for the same reason.” — S elected . I| S u m m er tim e W itn essing The day has passed when churches seem ed to have a complete letdown when sum mer came. Now the alert church is more eager than ever that no time shall be lost. Chief among summer activities are camps and Conferences, Daily Vacation Bible schools, and Child Evangelism classes. At the camps a Christian young person may have the advantage of Bible study, Christian fellowship, practical lessons on Christian living, and the inspiration of good music, as well as the physical benefits which come from the outdoor environment and exercise. Include one summer Bible conference in your vacation, if possible. But if you really want to be fed and to grow, be sure that it is a conference where the Lord Jesus Christ is exalted in His full deity and Saviourhood, and where the in fallibility of God’s inspired Word is ac cepted and proclaimed. And when you are traveling this sum mer, especially in out-of-the-way places, watch for opportunities to speak of the Lord Jesus Christ. There are Christian parents in many rural or mountain com munities who are longing that their sons and daughters may have contacts with out- and-out Christian young people! OPPORTUNITIES FOR CHRISTIAN GROWTH P salm 8 Meditation on the Lesson

David took time to “consider" the heavens. "When I consider thy heavens, the work o[ thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained," he said. David worshiped God as Creator. With poetic and spiritual insight, he recognized the “fingers” of God at work. Those "fingers” had formed the dainty flowers, the exquisite snowflakes, and had painted the gorgeous sunsets; those fingers also wrote the Ten Commandments. And once only on this earth is there a record that Christ Jesus our Lord, “God . . . manifest in-the flesh” (1 Tim. 3:16), wrote with His finger on the ground (John 8 :8 ). Marvelous fingers! Some day we shall see them, hal lelujah! A reverent observation of the starry heavens during the long summer evenings can be a means of growth in grace for the Christian. A devout astronomer, after a long time of study of the stars, exclaimed, “O God, I think Thy thoughts after Thee!” The fullest spiritual growth comes from a use of all the means of grace. W e need to meditate upon God’s works of creation as well as upon His written revelation and His providential working in the world today. But, of course, a real evaluation and ap preciation of God’s revelation in nature comes only after we know the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour from sin, and the Holy Spirit as the One who indwells and possesses us. All of the Psalms have that lifting power A New Message to Students Have you been told that only unedu cated persons or a naive few among uni versity students still maintain evangelical Christian faith? Would you like to know about student leaders in famous colleges and universities who are “not ashamed of the gospel of Christ” ? Remarkable testimonies from honor students at Yale, Harvard1, Princeton, and other universities, from an all-American football star, and from a holder of world records in track appear in the strikingly illustrated publication, “Youth Looks at Life.” Printed on glossy paper on pages of magazine size, this booklet commands at tention. It is designed to present an un equivocal salvation appeal in a manner that college students can respect. Copies can be ordered at 12 cents from the Scrip ture Distribution Society, Wheaton Col lege, Wheaton, 111.
