Un atelier de création littéraire avec Lysette Brochu La Bibliothèque publique du canton de Russell accueillera l’auteure Lysette Brochu, le 18 novembre prochain, de 14 h à 17 h. Cette dernière donnera un atelier de création littéraire d’une durée de trois heures. Mme Brochu a écrit une vingtaine de livres et a dirigé un collectif de textes variés pour venir en aide à Haïti. Elle a aussi participé à des revues culturelles de langue française, en plus de développer l’art de raconter des histoires aux enfants. Offert par les Éditions David, cet atelier est organisé dans le cadre de la troisième édition du concours de création littéraire Écrire pour se raconter. Ces ateliers sont offerts gratuitement un peu partout dans la province et mettent en vedette différents auteurs. L’objectif est d’aider les participants à amorcer leur projet d’écriture en plus de leur donner le goût d’écrire. Unlocked vehicles targeted in Ottawa Residents commuting in from Prescott-Russell to work in Ottawa or enjoy a day of shopping are warned to make sure their vehicles are locked and anything valuable either hidden or removed from inside. The Ottawa Police Service reports a rash of theft cases involving unlocked vehicles in the downtown area of the city and other surrounding neighbourhoods. Since the beginning of October, Ottawa police have logged about 500 theft reports involving unlocked vehicles, with about half of those cases in the downtown core. – Gregg Chamberlain Police issued Wanted alert The Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement Squad (ROPE) has issued a Canada-wide warrant for Paul Ouderkirk, 33, wanted for breach of parole. Ouderkirk is an aboriginal man, five-foot-six, 180 pounds. He has a tattoo of tribal flames and a naked woman with wings on his left arm and a tattoo of buck- shot and tribal flames on his right forearm. He also has a surgical scar on his upper chest. Ouderkirk was serving a three-year sentence for robbery, carrying a concealed weapon, weapon possession, and failure to comply with a probation order. He is known to frequent the Cornwall, Chesterville, and Toronto areas. Anyone seeing him or with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the ROPE Squad, toll-free, at 1-866-870-7673, the CrimeStoppers confidential tips line at 1-800-222-8477, or 911. Do not make contact or attempt to detain him. – Gregg Chamberlain Grant aid for hockey tournament The Embrun Minor Hockey Association has the support of Russell Township council for its upcoming Embrun Fall Classic Tournament. Council approved a request for an in-kind community grant for use of the Embrun Arena hall for the four-day hockey tournament which takes place Nov. 5 to 8. – Gregg Chamberlain
