this league than in the others,” Stoqua said, adding that the other leagues featured larger schools with bigger student populations to draw on for their football teams. The LFC includes smaller high schools like SFX. The result for SFX is that some of its games in the LFC saw the final score separated by as little as a single touchdown or point- conversion kick. “The games could have gone either way in some of our matches,” Stoqua said. “We’re on a more equal footing.” Stoqua noted that SFX was allowed to play in the LFC on a trial basis this year. The Falcons were not listed on the league’s official season game schedule and played
pick-up games for the most part against other teams who had no game marked on the schedule on a particular day. “”But based on what the other coaches say,” Stoqua said, “they want us back.” The Falcons lost many of their veteran players to graduation earlier this year. Stoqua noted that fatigue was one of the main obs- tacles for the Falcons due to a short bench. “The commitment was always good from the guys on the team.” For now, Stoqua and the Falcons are waiting for word from the LFC on whether on SFX will become a full league member next season.
It was a new season and a new league for the St. Francis Xavier Falcons football squad. St. Francis Xavier Catholic High School was shifted into the Ligue de football du Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l’Est ontarien (LFC) for the 2016 season. The Falcons finished with a 0-5 game record by Coach Scott Stoqua noted that the ove- rall scores in each game were closer for the Falcons than in past seasons in the Seaway and other high school football leagues. “We were much more competitive in
