The Vankleek Hill Horse & Buggy parade and Strawberry Social

Parade Marshalls Leigh and Karin Mode rode along in a wagon from Lalonde Farms in Alexandria. Champlain Mayor Gary Barton rode in a wagon from Hour Glass Farms on Pleasant Corners road along with councillors GerryMinor and Jacques Lacelle. East Hawkesbury councillor Simon Rozon rode in the Family Ouimet wagon. After the parade, visitors had the chance to enjoy some delicious strawberry shortcake, sponsored by the Vankleek Hill Farmers Market. A line driving competition over an obstacle course took place after the parade as a fun competition for both competitors and the public. The event began as part of Vankleek Hill’s bicentennial celebrations in 1997, and has since become a favourite event and tradition. Organized by Excellent Events, the day included a little something for everyone, leaving crowds with smiles.
The weekend proved to be a fabulous time for the 19 th annual Vankleek Hill Horse & Buggy Parade and Strawberry Social, which took place at the VankleekHill fairgrounds on July 5. Horses and wagons from all over the region came out to enjoy the parade, the beautiful day, and the strawberries. Visitors lined the fairgrounds as well as the streets along the parade path to get a glimpse of the excellent parade. The day began at the fairgrounds at 11 a.m. with a worship service provided by the Vankleek Hill Ministerial, followed by a lunch offered by the churches of the community. The parade began at 1 p.m. with horses and wagons pulling some interesting people.
Champlain Mayor Gary Barton waved to onlookers as he rode in the wagon from Hour Glass Farms on Pleasant Corners road along with councillors Gerry Minor and Jacques Lacelle.
20-month-old twins, Jackson and Elijah Pidgeon, were very much enjoying the cake and strawberries.
