M ore tennis players than ever took to the courts for training and competition in the summer of 2017. Following a fantastic U14 pre-season training tour to San Sebastián and a block friendly fixture at Charterhouse School, I was delighted with the progress and diligence all players have continually demonstrated. In addition to their games sessions, before-school and lunchtime squads have consolidated boys’ improvements, which has been reflected directly in fixtures for the College. We have competed in the Surrey Schools’ League across all age-groups, Archie Wright representing the U13 team away at St George’s Weybridge. The second half of the summer term saw boys take part in matches against St Paul’s, KCS Wimbledon, Eltham College and Alleyn’s in almost every year-group. 2017 was the first year to my knowledge that has run a House Tennis Competition from Year 3 through to Year 13, which is something I am determined to continue in the future. Boys’ responses to the newly resurfaced courts were hugely positive; training was always well-attended and the improved playing surface meant that the courts were playable in all weather conditions. A thoroughly enjoyable Parent/ Son Doubles Tournament was an excellent way to finish off the season at the end of June. Our Senior team competed in the Aegon Team Tennis Schools Competition and progressed through the preliminary round for the first time in Dulwich history. Thanks must go to all those boys who have represented the College and to the staff who have helped manage the teams. We are very much looking forward to building on what we have achieved this year.

I t was a successful term for the College’s athletes. Over 60 boys from Year 7 to Year 13 competed at a number of meets and achieved some excellent results. At the first meet of the season at Tonbridge, the College came second overall, gaining second place at Charterhouse the next week, where we only lost out to Wellington College by a single point. The intermediate boys achieved a third place in the Simmons Cup as well as qualifying for the regional A final in the Track and Field Cup, whilst the junior boys qualified for the regional B final. Individually, boys have achieved a number of impressive results, setting numerous personal bests and being selected for various representative honours. We had 22 boys selected to compete for Southwark in the London Inter-borough Championship, and both Bruno Ceccolini and Mackenzie Laban were selected to compete for the South East in the Combined Events championship. Additionally, Mackenzie Laban was selected to throw the hammer for the English Schools. Athletics Simon Thomas
