Dedicated, enthusiastic and skilled, Apprentice of the Year Chatreen O’Connor exemplifies the qualities of a future industry leader. A fourth-year electrical apprentice with Designer Group completing Level 6, Chatreen combines a disciplined and thoughtful approach to her work with strong technical competence. Entrusted with tasks beyond typical apprentice expectations, she has been delegated temporary QA/QC responsibilities on ATEX-rated systems within classified hazardous zones. Carrying out snagging, turnover and handover walkdowns of the W02 system, Chatreen provided an innovative solution to a compliance/design conflict, ensuring the project maintained ATEX integrity. “My apprenticeship with Designer Group has been a journey of growth, both technically and personally,” says Chatreen. “Over the past four years, I’ve developed strong electrical skills while working on complex projects. I’m also passionate about sharing my experience at apprenticeship and careers events, encouraging others to consider a career in the electrical trade.” Brendan Begley, Designer Group, says, “Chatreen is extremely motivated and always looking to improve her knowledge and skillsets, and it is refreshing to see and encounter an apprentice with such dedication, enthusiasm, foresight and knowledge.”

Judges were impressed with the attention to detail in Henry Deane Electrical’s tidy, professional installations. Taking pride in his work and offering his clients value for money, Henry Deane has grown his business from small residential work to include EV, solar, agricultural and commercial fit outs. Since establishment of the business in 2020, Henry Deane Electrical has won Hager’s Install of the Month on multiple occasions and been shortlisted twice for Electrician of the Year. Henry brings a strong work ethic to all jobs, adopting a common-sense approach to safety on site and constantly researching the latest tech, tools and tricks of the trade. One such example is Remi Tools’ tool trays designed to hang off fuseboards or ladders and improve efficiency for electricians. Good communication with customers, fellow tradespeople and wholesalers is key to completing jobs on time and within clients’ budgets, which helps the business generate repeat business and gain new clients. As well as wiring his sister’s forever home and his own house in the past year, standout recent projects for Henry Deane Electrical include a high-spec residential installation in Bantry, solar PV installation at Derryduff Organic Farm and full electrical fit out for Muintir Bhaire GAA.
