STOTHERS (M&E) HAS PROVIDED COMPLEX MEP SERVICES FOR A FLAGSHIP FACTORY OF THE FUTURE DESIGNED TO SUPPORT NEXT-GENERATION ENGINEERING, RESEARCH AND INNOVATION… Delivering building services without compromise
Stothers (M&E) Ltd was appointed by main contractor Henry Brothers Ltd to deliver a complete package of mechanical, electrical and public health (MEP) services for the project. The Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre (AMIC) is led by Queen’s University Belfast, in partnership with Ulster University and Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council. Representing a £40m investment, it forms part of a £230m Belfast Region City Deal programme designed to generate long-term economic and social value for Northern Ireland and beyond. AMIC’s flagship facility is a 10,500sqm Factory of the Future giving advanced manufacturing and engineering businesses access to the latest technology, specialist equipment and expertise, with the aim of accelerating innovation and collaboration
between industry and researchers. Based at Global Point Business Park in Newtownabbey, the facility features two large engineering halls, clean rooms, laboratories, a café, meeting rooms, a 250- seat auditorium, breakout areas, individual offices and a gym. Stothers (M&E)’s complex MEP installation spanned 16 months. With electrical services including HV distribution, a transformer and associated LV distribution supplied from a new NIE intake, the Belfast firm supplied HV cabling and switchgear, a 3MVA transformer and a full LV distribution system featuring multiple switchboards, distribution equipment, sub mains cabling and 630a busbar systems. An intelligent LED lighting system incorporated throughout the facility offers presence/absence detection, scene setting
