words have spirit and. life. Nor can He possibly mistake our case. -—Alliance Weekly. 16. Why Missionaries? “Go ye therefore, and teach all na tions” (Matt. 28:19). The spirit of Christian missions is the irresistible urge to tell others the good news of deliverance from sin and its penalty, through faith -in Jesus Christ. It is the ecstasy of the slave suddenly made free; of the prisoner set at liberty; of the groping soul upon whose newly opened eyes bursts the glory of the kingdom of God. Therefore, to make haste to ac quaint others with the miracle, and its source, is the most natural thing in the world.-—C. D. Bradley. 17. Use Me Today “ . '. A vessel . . . meet for the Piaster's use, and prepared unto every good work” (2 Tim. 2:21). Use me today, O Saviour divine; Cleanse and renew this servant of Thine. Lord, with Thy Spirit fill me,. I pray; Then in Thy service use me today. Use me today, Lord, use even me‘, Use me to lead some lost one to Thee. Lead where Thou wilt, Lord, open the way. And to Thy glory use me today. —Selected. 18. Security “Kept by the p'ower of God” (1 Pet. 1:5). These words were written to a com pany of refugees. They had been scattered* abroad, driven from their homes and ' businesses into foreign districts by the persecution of the infant church at Jerusalem. They were without doubt suffering privation and in much fear. Peter wrote to them, and these were the terms he used: “living hope” a m i d circumstances which seemed hopeless; “inheritance incorruptible” when they were robbed of everything; “kept by the power of God,” ánd yët they were in fear of their lives!—A London Journalist. 19. A Word to Doubters “That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consola tion, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us” (Heb. 6:18). If all the “shalls” in Scypture meant “perhaps,” And all the “haths” meant simply “hope to have,” And all the “ares” depended on an “if,” I well might doubt. But since our Saviour-God means what He 'says,

14. Our Desires i ;’V ' >■'■'/'?•, ... .'¿f. ; - -- . ^ .•' , “He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life In this world shall keep it unto life eternal” (John 12:25). The Buddhists say that desire is the cause of. all the, trouble in the universe; so they attempt to-rid them selves of desire. Christ likewise recog nizes that desire causes sin and trouble. Yet, instead of eradicating ;it, He turns its face in a new direction, and thereby makes it a power for good and not for evil. When our de sires are turned away from ourseives and toward Him, our-whole life be comes, changed. His interests are ours, and we live to please Him. , —Selected. 15. Where Are You Waiting? “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint”- (Isa. 40:31). The best advice has often increased my perplexities, and the end was to make me cease human depend ence and wait upon God from the dust of self-despair. The incarnate God. receives weary, perplexed sinners still and gives them solid rest. He -teaches as no man ever taught. His.
