Lesson 5: Lifesaving and enhanced first aid using primary and secondary survey Duration changed from 480 min to 675 min Few Learning Objectives were revisited and updated to ensure flow within the lesson and meet the HSE requirements Element 5.2: Primary survey updated Element 5.3: Catastrophic bleeding updated The term ‘haemorrhage’ was replaced with ‘bleeding’ The term ‘sickness ‘was replaced with ‘illness’ Element 5.4: A: Airway updated to meet HSE requirements e.g., 5.4.2 ‘correct treatment of a casualty with an obstructed airway following a step wise approach according to national/regional guidelines and best practice (as permitted by company/national regulations)’ Learning Objective 52 removed Element 5.5: B: Breathing - cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) updated Learning Objective 41 updated with specific equipment e.g., bag valve mask (BVM) with or without oxygen, pocket mask, airway device Learning Objective 42 added ‘The participants can recognise the benefits and risks of oxygen therapy in significant illness and injury (according to company guidelines and national legislation)’ Element 5.11 added focusing on Eye Injuries Element 5.14 ‘Bite wounds’ changes to ‘Bites and stings’ New Element 5.15 on Significant illness was added with focus on anaphylactic shock, asthma, epilepsy and seizures, heart attack, stroke, diabetes, and motion sickness.
Lesson 6: Pain Management and further possible medication Duration changed from 45 min to 50 min Few learning objectives were rearranged and revisited without change in content. New Note was added for Element 6.2 Further possible medication
Lesson 7: Enhanced first aid exercises (scenario-based training) Duration changed from 480 min to 420 min New note added: ‘It is recommended that participants should undertake a general warmup exercise before commencing scenario-based training and practise manual handling techniques throughout.’ Few learning objectives and activities were rephrased for communication clarity without change in content. 7.1.8 Examples of scenarios was updated and rearranged to provide a more logical and relevant list of scenario examples.
Annexes Annex 1 – Equipment List updated Term ‘dummies’ was changed to ‘mannequins’
