Discover the colour and warmth of rhythms from around the world this fall by registering at an African or Brazilian drumming school. Give free rein to your creativity and learn about different cultures while having lots of fun. As well as developing your motor skills, learning the art of drumming will also allow you to improve your concentration and your musical memory. Classes offered by drumming schools are usually given in the form of group workshops that take place in a dynamic and festive atmosphere. They introduce participants to the playing techniques of various instruments, including the djembe, conga, bongo, darbuka, and doum doum. These instruments are supplied by the school and can sometimes be rented by students wishing to practice at home. Do you have rhythm in your blood? Exchange your running shoes for a pair of Wellington boots and experience the enthralling adventure of gumboot dancing. Like drumming with the feet, this art form originated in the gold mines of South Africa during apartheid and is named for the rubber boots or gumboots worn by the workers. Because speaking was forbidden, coded rhythms tapped by the feet allowed miners to communicate amongst themselves. Over time this rarely used language transformed into a form of percussive dance that is taught around the world. Best of all, the gumboot dance is great for staying fit and relaxing due to its steady rhythm and rapid movements. So, whether you prefer to learn the art of djembe or gumboot, let the mesmerizing and powerful rhythms of Africa and Brazil sweep you away as you register at a drumming school or dance class.

MESSAGE DU MAIRE USINE D’ASPHALTE Ce message s’adresse à tous ceux et celles qui sont concernés par le projet de l’usine d’asphalte. Au point de départ, il est important de souligner que la compagnie PB Paving & Landscaping a soumis une demande d’amendement au Plan officiel des Comtés Unis de Prescott et Russell et que cette demande est combinée à une modification au Règlement de zonage du Canton. Le Conseil du Canton ne peut pas modifier la catégorie de zonage d’une propriété sans que celle-ci soit conforme à l’affectation du Plan officiel. Le processus de consultation prévu par la Loi sur l’aménagement du territoire, pris en charge par les Comtés, a débuté avec le dépôt de la demande complète le 13 juin dernier et la réunion publique, qui a pour but de présenter la demande et les enjeux, a eu lieu le 16 juillet suivant. Les membres du Conseil ont reçu une copie de l’avis de la réunion publique lors de la réunion du comité plénier du 26 juin et le Conseil a pris connaissance de la demande au même moment que tous ceux et celles qui ont assisté à la réunion publique. Le but de la réunion publique consiste à recueillir les commentaires de la population et le message transmis a été clair. Plusieurs personnes ont critiqué mon attitude, celles du Conseil et de l’administration lors de cette réunion publique. D’autres étaient convaincus que le projet de l’usine d’asphalte était chose faite ou que le Conseil était complice avec les promoteurs du projet. Je tiens à vous rassurer qu’il n’en est rien. Toute demande d’amendement au Plan officiel et au règlement de zonage peut faire l’objet d’une objection par un contribuable ou un promoteur et être portée devant la Commission des Affaires municipales. Les commentaires qui peuvent être émis par moi, les membres du Conseil et l’administration en réunion publique peuvent être utilisés pour ou contre la municipalité lors de l’audience de la CAMO. Pour ces raisons, moi, les membres du Conseil et l’administration devons demeurer impartials devant la situation. C’est malheureux, mais le système est ainsi fait. Nous ne pouvons nous permettre d’exposer la municipalité à des risques de poursuite alors que le processus de consultation est à peine enclenché. Avant de pouvoir prendre une décision éclairée, le Conseil doit être informé de tous les aspects de ce projet. La position du Conseil doit être fondée sur des arguments urbanistiques solides si elle est pour être débattue avec succès devant la Commission. Je sympathise avec tous ceux et celles qui sont touchés par ce dossier. À ce moment, je ne peux que vous encourager à avoir confiance dans le processus de consultation démocratique en place. Sincèrement, Jean-Yves Lalonde, Maire MESSAGE FROMTHE MAYOR ASPHALT PLANT This message is intended for everyone concerned by the proposed asphalt plant. First of all, it is important to stress the fact that the company, PB Paving & Landscaping, has filed an application to amend the United Counties of Prescott and Russell Official Plan and that this application is combined to an application to amend the Township Zoning By-Law. The Council of the Township cannot change the zoning category of a property if this category is not in compliance with the Official Plan designation. The consultation process prescribed by the Planning Act started with the filing of a complete application on June 13th and the public meeting for the purpose of presenting the application and the issues at hand was held on July 16th. Members of Council received a copy of the notice of the public meeting at the Plenary Committee meeting held on June 26th and Council was informed of the application at the same time that everyone else attended the public meeting. The purpose of the public meeting is to gather the comments of the population and the message received is clear. Many individuals have criticizedmy attitude, the Council and the administration during this public meeting. Others were convinced that the asphalt plant was a done deal or that Council was involved in some way with the promoters of the project. Let me reassure you that it is not the case. All applications to amend the Official Plan or the zoning by-law can be appealed by a taxpayer or a promoter and be brought before the Ontario Municipal Board. Any comment made by myself, a member of Council or the administration during a public meeting can be used for or against the municipality during the OMB hearing. For these reasons, myself, the members of Council and the administration must remain impartial in the situation. It is unfortunate, but that’s how the system works. We cannot expose the municipality to a potential risk of a lawsuit when the public consultation process has just started. Before taking an educated decision, Council must be informed of every aspect of this project. The Council’s position must be supported by sound planning arguments in order for it to be successful before the OMB. I sympathize with everyone concerned by this project. ST-ISIDORE | Les Aigles avaient quitté la Ligue de hockey junior de la Capitale nationale sur une défaite en finale face à Embrun. Les joueurs de Mathieu Sauvé auront à cœur de conjurer le mauvais sort cette saison. Le premier rendez-vous de la saison est en tout cas coché sur le calendrier. Ce sera à la fin septembre. « Nous sommes en forme, confie d’ailleurs l’entraîneur. Nous n’avons perdu qu’un joueur et beaucoup de nos très bons joueurs de la saison passé seront encore là. Je pense à Félix Lalonde, Maxime Séguin ou encore Mathieu Desforges, sacré meilleur défenseur de la Ligue en 2012.» Si l’expérience devrait être un des atouts des Aigles, reste à améliorer encore la confiance. « On regarde un peu trop souvent les Panthères d’Embrun, vainqueurs quatre fois de la ligue C, avec trop de crainte », déclarait encore récemment le président Christian Levac.

Leclub unifié de soccer de Rockland organisait ce week-end une animation de soccer à l’Ecole catholique Francis-Xavier de Hammond. C’était l’occasion pour les jeunes de 4 à 17 ans de démontrer leurs habilités.

Les Hawks achèvent leur camp d’entrainement
leur campd’entraînement qui se déroulera du 20 au 23 août. Les partisans sont invités à venir regarder les jeunes joueurs à l’œuvre et obtenir un aperçu de l’édition 2012-2013 des Hawks de Hawkesbury. Ce mercredi a lieu la troisième journée du camp d’entraînement de 15 h 30
à 17 h 30 avec une séance d’entraînement ainsi qu’unmatch. Le camp se conclura jeudi avec une dernière séance d’entraînement et un match se déroulant de 18 h à 20 h. Par la suite, les Hawks entameront une série de matchs hors-concours. L’équipe locale accueillera les Colts de Cornwall,
ce samedi, à compter de 13 h à l’aréna de Saint-Isidore. Le 30 septembre, les Hawks rendront visite aux Colts à l’aréna Ed Lumley, à 19 h 30. Le troisième match hors- concours aura lieu le 2 septembre où les Hawks visiteront les Rangers de Gloucester, à 15 h, au Earl Armstrong. L’équipe locale se mesurera enfin aux Stallions, à Kanata, le 4 septembre, à 19 h 30. Le lancement de la saison 2012-2013 de la Ligue centrale de hockey Jr A se fera à Kanata, le 7 septembre. Les Hawks disputeront leur premier match contre les Raiders, le 8 septembre. Le premier match au Complexe sportif Robert Hartley aura lieu le 14 septembre. Les Hawks accueilleront les Grads de Cumberland, à 19 h 30. Ils recevront par la suite les 73’s de Kemptville, le 16 septembre, à 19 h. Transactions Les Hawks de Hawkesbury ont effectué une transaction qui a envoyé Stephen Hrehoriak aux Lumber Kings de Pembroke. En retour, les Hawks obtiennent les services de Pietro Antonelli, un aillier gauche de 6 pieds, âgé de 19 ans. Ce dernier est issu du Collège Standstead. Il s’alignait avec les Spartans. Lors de la saison 2010-2011, Pietro a marqué 29 buts et obtenu 37 passes en 48 matchs. Lors de sa première saison dans la Ligue centrale avec les Lumber Kings, il a obtenu cinq mentions d’aide en 11 matchs. Les Hawks ont également envoyé l’attaquant Alex Stothard et un choix de quatrième ronde aux Stallions de Kanata. Les Hawks obtiennent le gardien de 18 ans, Brock Crossthwaite, ainsi qu’un choix de cinquième ronde au prochain repêchage. Crossthwaite en sera à sa deuxième saison dans la Ligue centrale. En 18 matchs lors de sa première saison, il a récolté quatre victoires et sept défaites. Sur 441 tirs, il a accordé 63 buts pour terminer avec un pourcentage d’efficacité de ,875.
