Get hands-on with a model “nucleus” to learn how and why we smash nuclei at half the speed of light, then tour the lab and find out what exciting discoveries await the new linear accelerator! [201] All About Insects with the MSU Bug House 20 Participants Join MSU Bug House guides for an interactive Bug House tour! Learn about the biology of insects and other arthropods, handle live beetles and cockroaches and participate in an insect-themed craft activity (may include live insects). [202] American or Canadian? The Culture and Charm of Canada 30 Participants View images, videoclips, historical facts, music and food of Canada and invite participants to compete in a quiz challenge on knowledge of Canada. Savor Canadian treats and learn new and interesting facts about Canada. This session is being presented in honor of the 65th anniversary of the MSU Canadian Studies Center!

[141] We Are All African (and a little bit Neanderthal) 10 Participants Learn basic concepts of genetics and evolution and apply them to create a phylogenetic tree. We’ll interpret the results gleaned from peer-reviewed publications on human evolution.

Learn basic cake decorating skills and some fun ideas for specialty cakes, cupcakes and cookies.

In this class, we will generate a family tree together using a free version of Ancestry.com and learn how to use free tools available through your local library. Attendees will learn tips for family tree research, including how to conduct family interviews and record multi-generational family traditions and memories.

Learn about what it takes to be an archaeologist alongside the MSU Campus Archaeology program’s archaeology staff and faculty.
