Welcome Dr. Ashley Kowalski
We welcome to our community Dr. Ashley Kowalski, BSc (Hons.), N.D., a Licensed Naturopathic Doctor, who has opened a practice at the Wellness Center at 1252 St. Jacques in Embrun. Dr. Ashley is originally from Kapuskasing, Ontario. She attended the University of Waterloo and graduated with a 4-year degree in Biomedical Sciences before attending and graduating from a further 4-year intensive medical study of naturopathic medicine in Toronto. “Naturopathic doctors treat the patient as a whole,” explains Ashley. “In order to treat the underlying cause of their concern or ailment, we address the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of health.” Such an approach is necessary to nd a solution that is best suited to the patient’s needs, she says. “We spend more time with the patient to nd the best solution. Unlike western medicine, our outcome is an individualized treatment plan.” An individualized plan, explains Ashley, can include an array of solutions: botanicals, other natural products, or different types of treatments, including homeopathy, hydrotherapy or acupuncture. She also provides counselling for her clients on diet, lifestyle and nutrition. While naturopathic medicine might propose a different approach, it’s not necessarily an alternative to western or conventional medicine, says Ashley. “We can work in conjunction with medical doctors,” she says, adding that most extended healthcare plans cover naturopathic medicine. Naturopathic medicine proposes solutions that have fewer side effects. Ashley provides
