»Pek peče kruh, žemlje, slanike in burek. Pek ima predpasnik, posebno belo kapo in kuharsko obleko. Kako pečeš? Najprej narediš testo, ki ga narediš iz moke, jajc, kvasa, soli, vode in mleka. Testo zgneteš v hlebček in ga daš vzhajati v posodo in ga pokriješ s suho krpo. Nato testo razdeliš v hlebčke, tega pleteš (pletenice) in ga daš na pekač, kjer ga prebarvaš z jajcem, da se bolj sveti. Nato ga odneseš v kuhinjo peči.«
“A baker made bread, bread rolls and salty pastries called »slanik« and »burek«. He put on an apron and wore a specially designed hat and baking clothes.” How to make bread?
“First, make the dough from flour, eggs, yeast, salt, water, and milk. The dough has to be kneaded into a loaf, put into a basket and covered with a dry cloth. Then, divide the dough into smaller pieces and knit each into a bread plait (Slovenian: »pletenica«), place it on a baking tray, coat it with a whipped egg (for the crust to become shiny and visually more attractive) and put it in the oven.”
