continued * deity, openly acknowledge Him as the perfect teacher and the perfect man, then how can they escape the inescapable conclusion that He must be what He claimed to be, namely, the very Son of God. May those who have never acknowledged His real deity bow, not only to the inevitable logic of it, but yield to the constraint of His redeeming love and have their doubts settled once for all as they confess with Thomas, who once also had his misgivings, and cry, “My Lord and my God.” Who Christ Is T he claim of Jesus for Him self, as Dr. Griffith Thom as points out, was a five fold claim: He claimed to be the Messiah of the Jews. He claimed to be the Saviour. “ I am not come to destroy, but to ful fill.” “ The Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” He claimed to be the Mas ter of mankind. “ Follow me,” He said. “He that loveth father or ' mother more than me is not wor thy of me.” “He that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.” He claimed to be the Judge of man kind. He alone is able to sum up all the best, to decide all the future, to weigh aright every motive, word, and deed, and to render flawless judgment. Above all, as we have seen, He claimed the prerogatives of God. “ I will rise again.” “ I am from above.” “ I came down from heaven.” “ I am the resurrection.” “ Ask in my name.” “Before Abraham was, I am.” About the Au thor Dr. Francis S. Downs was formerly pastor of one of the largest churches in the San Francisco area and a highly respected counsellor to students at the Univ. of Calif., Berkeley. This special article is included in The Heart of the Christian faith, American Tract Society. THE K IN G 'S BUSINESS Hear His claims : “ I am the Light.” “ I am the Way.” “ I am . . . the Life.” “ I am . .. the Truth.”
