OUR BEAUTIFUL PARKS AND OPEN SPACE

In 1966, residents voted to create the Naperville Park District—separate from the City of Naperville—to support parks and recreation with its own funding and elected board of commissioners. Since that time, the Park District has grown along with the City, acquiring land and planning for the future, so that now, as a community of nearly 150,000 people, we can enjoy 136 parks and 75 playgrounds across 2,400+ acres of land , many unique facilities, and more than 7,500 classes, teams, events and performances annually. The Park District also offers many unique free events throughout the year.

Park and Facilities Overview

Seasonal Prescribed Burns Each spring and fall, the Park District uses controlled ground-level burns as an effective tool to clear the ground of invasive weeds and reduce the amount of leaf and plant debris with the goal of returning nutrients to the soil and trigger native plant germination. Residents may see smoke or even fire when these activities are occurring. Nearby residents receive notification via post card and the media is notified by press release prior to the start of prescribed burn season. Information regarding prescribed burns and locations can be found at napervilleparks.org/ prescribedburns.

Wolf’s Crossing Community Park

Residents may rent parks or facilities for private events. For details and rental application form, visit napervilleparks.org/rentals. Naperville has miles and miles of trails that safely connect residents

to places across the community via walking or biking. Please note that biking is not allowed on the Naperville Riverwalk. A great resource regarding places to bike

and hike can be found on the City of Naperville’s website: naperville.il.us/enjoy-naperville/biking- maps-guides-and-plans.

INVOLVE The Program Guide, which is published four times a year, is a seasonal sourcebook for programs, special events, camps, facilities and more – available exclusively online at napervilleparks.org/programguides. This quarterly reference includes information on a multitude of recreation programs and leisure opportunities for all ages, from early childhood through active senior adults. Please note that seniors can enjoy a 20% discount on program fees when registering for adult programs not included within the senior section or otherwise not designated specifically for seniors. Good Sportsmanship The Naperville Park District focuses on learning, fun and teamwork. Together we thrive by using positive, encouraging behavior, showing respect and being considerate of all.

Resident Program Fees Naperville Park District residents live in incorporated areas of Naperville and pay taxes to the Naperville Park District. These park district residents enjoy the resident rate for Naperville Park District programs and the opportunity to register for programs prior to nonresidents. In order to register as a resident, a new customer account must be established. To register online for programs, visit napervilleparks.org/register, then click “Create an Account” and follow the instructions. Accounts also can be set up over the phone by calling 630-848-5000. Financial Need The District’s Fee Assistance Program is available to Naperville residents experiencing financial hardship and provides free or discounted programs or memberships for those who qualify. Volunteer Serve your community with your time and talents! The Naperville Park District relies on many different kinds of volunteers throughout the year to make its programs and events successful. If you are looking for an opportunity to get involved in the community, please consider volunteering with us. Special Needs The Park District partners with Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA) to provide inclusion services for Park District participants with no extra charge beyond the program registration fee. To register, simply indicate on the program registration form that special accommodations are needed.

Board of Park Commissioners Established in 1966, the Naperville Park District is an independent municipal agency committed to its mission by offering a wide variety of recreation opportunities. A seven- member board elected at-large by Naperville voters governs the organization, each serving a four-year term. Board Meetings Board meetings are held twice monthly on the second Thursday at 7:00 pm and the fourth Thursday at 6:30 pm. Meetings are open to the public and also are published on the Park District’s YouTube channel. Meeting locations, agendas, instructions regarding the public comment process and more can be found at napervilleparks.org/ boardmeetings .
