M emory V erse : “Pray one for an other” (Janies 5:16). We might think that because the Lord Jesus Christ was the Son of God He would never need to pray. When we read the Bible, we learn that the Saviour spent much time praying. Often when He had some important decision to make, He spent a whole night in prayer. Jesus pray ed for Himself, and He prayed for others. Surely if the Son of God prayed much, His children should. Jesus prayed that He would al ways be willing to do His Father’s will. He prayed that His disciples and all Christians would be faithful in serving and following Him. Christian boys and girls should never leave their room in the mom: ing without first talking with their Lord Jesus, and His talking to them through His Word. All day long, Christians should thank Him for His blessings. They should bring every problem to Him, too. Prayer is just talking with God. Prayers need not be long, nor do Christians need to be upon their knees to pray. God hears the sh ortest pray ers; He hears wherever the Christian m a y be. Many Christians are selfish and pray only for themselves and for their families. The Saviour told His children to pray even fo r their enemies. Would you not be grieved if some friend refused to speak to you? How would you feel if a member of your family talked to you only once a week? Some of God’s children grieve Him by talking to Him only when they are in trouble or when they need something. Speak to your Lord each day, tell Him of your love, thank Him for His blessings, and bring to Him your needs.

Points and Problems "Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice” (18:37). This was an amazing statement which only the Son of God Himself could make. There is a sharp distinction between the followers of truth and the fol lowers of falsehood. Only those who listen to the Lord Jesus with recep tive hearts are really of the truth, for He is “the truth” (14:6). He is truth incarnate: truth in the abso lute. Everything of truth that man needs to know is bound up in Him. Those who turn from Him believe a lie and the end is a tragedy, as it was in the case of Pilate. * “Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above” (19:11a). God is still on His throne, the Sovereign Ruler of the universe. Earthly rulers and Satan himself can only operate as far as God’s permissive will al lows. The entire Calvary experience was within the will of God; no hand could have been laid upon the Son of God if the Father had not willed it (John 10:18). * * * "Therefore he that delivered me unto theehath the greater sin” (19:11b). There are degrees of guilt in the realm of sin. Not all sin will receive the same punishment. Ap parently, Pilate was not as great a sinner as Caiaphas and his fellow Jews. They had sinned against great er light than Pilate. Added light brings added responsibility. • • • "No king but Caesar” (19:15). How unspeakably sad is such a condi tion! Having no king but Caesar, the Jews have suffered untold persecu tions throughout the centuries. And countless Gentiles, too, are impover ishing their souls for time and eter nity because they have no king either, save some worldly Caesar, to whom they pay tribute, and give their allegiance. and 3*4"*4" from your films and snapshots. ¡The exclusive service for missionaries and Christian workers world wide, from whom many appreciative letters have been received. Outline and Exposition T he K ing ' s P erson (18:37, 38)

Before Pilate, Jesus bore witness to His own kingship. .Pilate had op portunity to find out the truth when He asked Jesus, “What is truth?” But alas, he left the presence of Jesus before his question could be an swered. The world continues to move in ignorance and darkness because it is too busy with its own affairs to stop long enough to learn what truth really is. T he K ing D elivered U p (19:10-16) While Pilate thought he was act ing by his own power, he really had no power at all except that given him from above (vs. 10-12). Even the people over whom he ruled were mightier than he; when he would have released Jesus, they prevented him. Making a last effort to main tain his position and authority by letting Jesus go, Pilate brought Him forth and said to the people, “Be hold, your king!” They replied that they had no king but Caesar. Thus they lost their opportunity by choos ing to continue in sin and its bond age- rather than by acknowledging Him as their Messiah. Seeing the determination of the people, Pilate yielded to them, and delivered Jesus to be crucified (vs. 13-16). Political expediency is still a curse of the church and the nation. T he K ing C rucified (1 9 :25b-30) Seeing His mother standing at the foot of the cross, Jesus consigned her to the care of His beloved disciple who took her to his own house. J e s u s would not die until all Scripture was fulfilled. He there fore said, “I thirst,” and when the vinegar was given Him, He asserted: “It is finished.” Since everything needful to take away sin and remove guilt was completed, He “bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.” Of His own volition He dismissed His spirit into the hands of His God. He now awaits the day when He will be crowned, not with thorns, but with the glory which He had with the Father before the world was.
