Let His radiant sunshine flood your pil grim way; Let Him stand between you and the tempter’s wile; Meet Him in the morning, talk with Him awhile.” —H arold T . B artow . MARCH 9 Promised Protection and Power "1 have put my words in thy mouth, and / have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand” (Isa. 51:16). A Christian woman wrote upon the fly page of her Bible the following words: “Lay any burden upon me, only sustain me; send me anywhere, only go with me; sever any tie but that which binds me to .Thy service and to Thy heart.” Every called soul is to be a herald and a witness. We are to aim at nothing less than this, to make every nation, and every creature in every nation, acquainted with the gospel tidings.—A. T. P ierson . MARCH 10 Diffusing His Fragrance "Thanhs he unto God, who . . . maketh manifest through us the savor of his knowl edge in every place” (2 Cor. 2:14, R.V.). In Rumania there is a certain valley where they grow nothing but roses for the Vienna market. The perfume of that valley in the time of the rose crop is such that if you go into: it for a few minutes, wherever you go for the rest of the day people know that you have been there. So may others take knowledge of us as we emanate the fragrance of the indwelling Christ.—From The New Life by Captain Reginald Wallis. “They took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.” There was some thing about these plain, common people that there was about nobody else. Their gar ments smelled of the cassia and of all the fragrant flowers that grow round the feet of the King. Do they take knowledge that we have been with the morning newspaper, with the gossip of the hour, or with Jesus? —J oseph P arker . MARCH 11 Can He Fail Us? "fPho delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us” (1 Cor. 1:10). Want of trust is at the root of almost all our sins and all our weaknesses. How shall we escape from it, but by looking to Him, and observing His faithfulness? As the light which shines from the dark waters of the lake is the reflection of the sun’s rays, so man’s faith is the impress and reflection of God’s faith. The man who holds God’s faith will not be reckless or foolhardy, but he will be ready for every emergency. The man who holds God’s faith will dare to obey Him, however impolitic it may appear. —J. H udson T aylor . MARCH 12 Surrender and Communion “ So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows” (Psa. 61:8). Our self-surrender to the Lord is not a thing to be made once for all at the begin

ning of the Christian life. It needs to be renewed perpetually: and if it is a duty to make this daily self-surrender, it is also a joy» It wonderfully calms the spirit that has been ruffled by the worries of the day, by the trials to faith and patience that have been met with every hour, and by conscious defeats in the battle with sin, to bring all these disturbing and chafing vexations and lay them down at God’s feet and leave them there.—G. H. K night . “ Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?" (Rom. 6:16). Every man must serve somebody: we have no choice as to that fact. Those who have no master are slaves to themselves. Depend upon it, you will either serve Satan or Christ, either self or the Saviour. You will find sin, self, Satan, and the world to be hard masters; but if you wear the livery of Christ, you will find Him meek and lowly of heart, and you will find rest unto your souls. When the wind blows cold, He always takes the bleak side of the hill. . —C harles H addon S purgeon . MARCH 14 UnofFended Peace “ Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them” (Psa. 119:165). The lover of the Word is not only un offended, but he is enveloped in a great con- MARCH 13 A Loving Master

“ Separate from Christ. . .

Having No Hope”— Ephesians 2 :1 2

Such are this leper father and his little son)

Not only this one, but hundreds of them, whom your missionaries cannot even take in from the roads and ditches where they lie. One missionary writes: "The most cruel, heart- piercing torture comes when a leper begs to be ad mitted and I have to refuse him. I feel like a criminal, and to know I am a representative of Christian people makes it worse." YOU could take them in. You could bring them into the arms of that Savior who said, "It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones."
