Research and Leadership

Pragati Pradhan earned her Ph.D. from the University of North Bengal in India, at Raman Research Institute, and has been with Embry-Riddle since 2022. She has conducted postdoctoral research at Penn State University, working to develop a one-of-a-kind algorithm for detecting X-ray transients with the Europe-led satellite Athena. She then moved to MIT, where she worked on high-resolution spectral analysis of massive stars. She joined Embry-Riddle as an assistant professor, where she teaches physics and astrophysics, with new courses in development. “At Embry-Riddle, the faculty and students are one big celestial family . . . Aviation Psychology, Forensic Psychology and Human Factors Psychology, plus minors in Human Factors and Psychology, the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences prepares students to become tomorrow’s leaders in the science of human behavior. PROGRAMS

Bachelor of Science in Aviation Psychology The Bachelor of Science in Aviation Psychology integrates human factors and industrial-organizational psychology principles within an aviation context. Graduates of this program will confidently craft solutions for improving aviation safety, crew resource management and human systems in aviation safety investigator, aviation security analyst and human performance specialist roles. This program is among the few in the nation that offer an undergraduate education focused solely on aviation psychology.

Bachelor of Science in Human Factors Psychology

Human Factors Psychology focuses on studying human-machine interactions to enhance usability, comfort, safety and performance. This program equips students to conduct human factors research and improve the design of complex systems. Graduates can pursue careers as human factors specialists or continue their education in graduate school. This applied discipline explores human abilities and limitations in sensing, storing and processing information and applies this knowledge to optimize human-machine systems.

Department of Biology and Chemistry The Department of Biology and Chemistry offers students a friendly and engaging environment to study the science of life. The Bachelor of Science in Applied Biology provides a base knowledge of biology for students preparing for any field of life sciences. The Bachelor of Science in Forensic Biology focuses on laboratory skills, field activities and hands-on training, giving graduates diverse career opportunities in the ever-expanding field of forensics. Embry-Riddle provides valuable workplace experience through internships for biology and chemistry students. Faculty draw from their backgrounds in anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, entomology, microbiology, molecular biology, material science, organic chemistry and more to guide students with their expertise and teach a broad spectrum of lecture and lab courses.

Bachelor of Science in Applied Biology

The Bachelor of Science in Applied Biology provides students with foundational knowledge across the biological sciences, while allowing them the freedom to design their upper-level coursework to suit their interests in career paths such as healthcare, natural resource management or aerospace and aviation. Applied Biology students can choose one of two distinct tracks to tailor their studies — the Environmental Sciences track or the Health Sciences track.

Bachelor of Science in Forensic Biology

The Bachelor of Science in Forensic Biology brings together the disciplines of forensics, biology, chemistry and law to give students the basic laboratory skills and theoretical background required of investigators and leading professionals in forensic science laboratories, law enforcement, pre-medical fields, research areas and legal contexts.

Calculate and Compute the Future

Department of Mathematics The Department of Mathematics at the Prescott Campus offers two innovative degrees — the Bachelor of Science in Data Science and the Bachelor of Science in Simulation Science, Games and Animation (SSGA) — along with providing the mathematics courses for all programs at Embry-Riddle. Our Bachelor of Science in Data Science combines data science skills with specialized knowledge in various domains. Students work closely with faculty in project-based courses that focus on applying skills to real-world questions. The degree has immediate applications in industry, government and research settings. The Bachelor of Science in SSGA prepares students to create virtual worlds using mathematical algorithms and technologies. The program covers areas such as aviation simulators, computer-aided design (CAD) systems, computer animation software, streaming video networks and computer games.

Bachelor of Science in Data Science The Bachelor of Science in Data Science emphasizes the acquisition of data, extraction of knowledge from data and communication of actionable results. The program seeks to develop students with the capacity to acquire, manage, secure and analyze large and varied sets of data using modern software and techniques. Students are required to choose a specialization track, with options including Business, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Economics, Intelligence, Math, Physics or Psychology. Bachelor of Science in Simulation Science, Games and Animation The Bachelor of Science in Simulation Science, Games and Animation equips students with an essential foundation in computer science, game design, digital media, simulation, systems modeling, spatial computing and software engineering. Students design virtual worlds and user experiences from the ground up, using industry-standard applications and cutting-edge equipment. The curriculum prepares students to construct interactive, immersive experiences that leverage emerging technology to improve the human experience and foster lifelong critical- and design-thinking skills.

Department of Physics and Astronomy

The Department of Physics and Astronomy offers students an engaging environment to study the fundamental laws of nature and explore the universe. The department offers two degree programs, the Bachelor of Science in Astronomy and the Bachelor of Science in Space Physics. Faculty work one-on-one with students and aid in undergraduate research opportunities. The Astronomy program combines physics and astronomy courses, hands-on lab work and use of the Observatory Complex to study the universe. Our Space Physics program offers a comprehensive physics education with a focus on space-related topics such as astronomy, optics, remote sensing, particle physics and cosmology. Students in either program undertake a yearlong thesis research project, acquiring research skills applicable in a variety of STEM careers.

Bachelor of Science in Astronomy The Bachelor of Science in Astronomy is designed to prepare students for work in space and aerospace industries, academic and government research laboratories, graduate programs and beyond. Students explore objects ranging from our solar system to the farthest reaches of the universe with hands-on experiences using astronomical equipment, including our new telescopes and sophisticated electronic cameras. Students will learn how to plan, execute and analyze astronomical observations with opportunities for student-faculty research projects. Bachelor of Science in Space Physics The Bachelor of Science in Space Physics is an applied physics program designed to prepare students for graduate studies and work in space and aerospace industries. Students study the structure of the universe on all scales and gain hands-on experience with research-quality equipment and modern sensing techniques. Senior thesis interests may include astrophysics, gravitational waves, general relativity and exotic propulsion.

AIR FORCE AND ARMY ROTC

Leadership Through Service

Army ROTC Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) enhances a student’s education by providing unique leadership and management training, along with practical experiences. A challenging and flexible curriculum meets technical training in map reading, land navigation, drill and ceremony, rifle marksmanship and more. Students may have the opportunity to commission as a

Air Force ROTC The Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) is a leadership and educational program designed to provide students the opportunity to become Air and Space Force officers after completing their college degrees. The AFROTC program is focused on preparing cadets to become leaders in today’s high- tech United States Air Force (USAF) and United States Space Force (USSF). The three-to-four-year program teaches students about the Air Force and the historical development of airpower and the military. Upper-level classes emphasize leadership skills, national security affairs and preparation for active duty. Detachment 028’s mission is to cultivate a culture and environment of enthusiasm, pride and character amongst cadets, while training the next generation of first-class leaders. Air Force and Army ROTC offer students a chance to develop skills for success in both the military and civilian worlds, including confidence, self-esteem, motivation and the ability to make decisions.

Reach New Horizons With Research

The College of Arts & Sciences conducts basic, applied and translational research and engages in creative work, providing mentored research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students. In doing so, we foster unique and innovative disciplinary, multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research, approaches and applications to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), social and behavioral sciences, humanities and simulation sciences. Furthermore, the college serves as a hub for education, research and engagement with government and industry in security and resilience and builds focus areas in fields such as humanistic STEM and data science. We are currently investigators on several National Science Foundation grants, ranging from providing support for online undergraduate researchers to our unique Humanistic STEM project, which blends humanities and STEM content to help build a future workforce with expanded creative- thinking and problem-solving skills.

OBSERVATORY COMPLEX

JIM AND LINDA LEE PLANETARIUM

Shoot for the Stars Our unique Observatory Complex is used for astronomy classes and several student-faculty projects in optical and radio astronomy. The complex is equipped with a wide range of instrumentation for imaging and analysis of extraterrestrial electromagnetic emissions. The optical observatory is equipped with 20-inch Ritchey-Chrétien and 16-inch Schmidt- Cassegrain telescopes, cameras and a spectrograph. The radio observatory features a three-node Dipole Array Telescope (DART), a 15-meter HERA test dish, several antennas and more. Students use the observatory for collection and analysis of astronomical data for use in research projects, while faculty members also use the observatory for research and to provide outreach to the community through public viewings, open houses and other events in conjunction with local educators and astronomy enthusiasts. The location of our Prescott Campus puts us at a great advantage for seeing the night sky, far from city light pollution.

For Students + Community Outreach As a part of the STEM Education Center, the Jim and Linda Lee Planetarium is much more than just a planetarium. The facility contains multi- media learning software that can take viewers from the inner complexities of the human body to the farthest reaches of the known universe. The Planetarium opened with the goal of serving a wide and diverse audience of science and space enthusiasts, and led to the formation of our STEM Outreach team. In addition to being a resource for students and faculty, the Planetarium hosts events open to the public year- round. Past shows at the Planetarium include films on topics like planets and stars, ocean exploration, dark matter and the Moon, presented in a 360-degree view. In spring 2026, the Planetarium debuted its first original film, “The Last Symphony of Light," which explores the distant future of humanity and the cosmos.

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

Infinite Opportunities At Embry-Riddle, the opportunities to grow and learn on campus are infinite. We believe in the importance of hands- on learning in addition to classroom instruction. Our campus has laboratories in every discipline where students have access to state-of-the-art technology that typical undergraduates don’t. Other labs within the College of Arts and Sciences include the Chemistry Lab, Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) Optics Lab, Modern Physics and Optics Lab, Particle Physics Lab and the Simulation Science, Games and Animation Lab. Embry-Riddle Prescott’s on-campus opportunities even transcend physical space. The Cold Case Task Force is open to all students across campus and serves as a capstone option for Forensic Psychology students. Founded by a Forensic Psychology student and a Forensic Science faculty member, the Cold Case Task Force encourages students to use research methods and open-source intelligence to investigate unsolved cases with fresh perspectives and approaches.

Discovery Through Experimentation

The Kieckhefer Foundation Forensic Lab offers you space to learn and apply forensic science techniques, scientific analysis and investigative methods to criminal and civil cases, as well as security and intelligence studies. Students conduct experiments in anthropology, entomology, ballistics and criminalistics, while also learning to perform firearms examinations, bloodstain pattern analysis, bullet trajectory experiments and trace evidence examinations. Students learn fingerprinting methods and DNA sequencing processes, conduct crime scene searches and collect physical evidence. They have the opportunity to put their skills to the test by processing a mock crime and forming a hypothesis of what may have happened through collecting evidence and performing forensic lab tests. This lab features various forensic test kits and materials, including compound microscopes, a Spectrophotometer and a fuming chamber, and offers access to analytical devices such as NMR, GC-MS, FTIR and XRF instruments.

Types of Aid and Assistance Federal and State Grants

These grants are available to U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are enrolled at least half-time in a degree program. To remain eligible, you must make satisfactory academic progress and not be in default or owe a return repayment on a grant or loan. Institutional and Private Scholarships Like grants, scholarships do not have to be paid back. Federal and Private Student Loans A variety of federal and alternative loan options exist for students who meet diverse qualifications, including degree of study, past accomplishments, financial status and other such criteria. State Programs Each state offers its own range of scholarships and grant programs that you may qualify for through residency and meeting the outlined criteria.
