In September, the speed limit on Highway 417 will increase by 10 km/h. Ontario Transportation Minister Jeff Yurek announced, May 10, three pilot projects starting mid-September, to determine if Ontario is ready to become the seventh province in Canada to have a speed limit of 110 kilometres or more per hour for its highways. Highway 417, from Ottawa to the Québec border, is one of the routes chosen for the speed limit test. The Transportation Ministry will hold a public consultation and will monitor the situation to determine the success of the pilot project. “Results from the pilot and all feedback received during consultations will be carefully considered as a part of the final decision- making process,” Yurek stated in a news SFMFBTFi8FSFBMTPXPSLJOHXJUIPVSTBGFUZ and enforcement partners.” The change from the present 100-km/h maximum speed limit will remain in effect for two years for evaluation.
