Presbyterian Church. Dr Rood called me in and asked if I would come to Biola as Director of the Extension Department, which in those days was working in Bible conference work. I developed quite a program that was never totally implemented, but I engaged the faculty members that we had and had them agree to serve in the Extension Bible conference work as the opportunity presented itself, and as they were able. So for six months, I was in the Extension department. During those six months I was away from home about three weeks out of every month. Incidentally, that was the only position I ever held that I thought might become my life work. I went into every job as if it were to be my life work. But after I'd been in the Extension Department for three or four months, I realized that being away from home so much was not for me. Fortunately after that, in 1937, there was an opening in the Christian Service Department, and a need to serve on the faculty. So I took the job as Director of
