MESSAGE DE LA SOCIÉTÉ D'AIDE AU DÉVELOPPEMENT DES COLLECTIVITÉS (SADC) Avec sa mission d'offrir un soutien collaboratif aux petites et moyennes entreprises, la SADC offre des consultations d'affaires, aiguille les demandeurs aux ressources communautaires appropriées, appuie les initiatives économiques communautaires et fournit des subventions, des prêts et des investissements aux entreprises locales et aux OBNL. Depuis ses débuts en 1987, la SADC a su évoluer grâce à sa vision d'être un catalyseur, un chef de file et un partenaire dans la croissance durable des entreprises et le développement économique, rôle qui lui mérite la confiance de ses partenaires et ses clients. La SADC dessert la ville de Cornwall, les comtés de Stormont, Dundas et Glengarry, ainsi qu'Akwasasne. Elle est dirigée par un conseil d'administration indépendant composé de bénévoles. Au nombre des ses objectifs principaux, ce conseil, travaillant de concert avec le gouvernement et d'autres collaborateurs locaux, accorde la priorité à la stabilité économique, à la croissance et à la création d'emplois – afin de contribuer à des économies rurales diversifiées et des collectivités dynamiques. Au début de cette nouvelle année, nous profitons de cette occasion pour remercier tous nos intervenants et pour annoncer la nomination d'un nouveau directeur général, Rock Lefebvre, et présenter notre équipe. À la suite d'un processus de recherche approfondi, le conseil a retenu Rock Lefebvre pour la façon dont il s'accorde à la SADCCC et à ses valeurs. En plus de son expérience de gestion et de ses qualifications professionnelles, le comité de sélection a remarqué sa passion pour la croissance des affaires et le développement économique ainsi que ses connaissances de plusieurs secteurs d'affaires. Natif de Glengarry, Rock Lefebvre est heureux de revenir au bercail et d'avoir la possibilité d'aider à la croissance des entreprises locales et de participer à l'établissement des priorités économiques pour Cornwall, Akwasasne, Stormont, Dundas et Glengarry. Nous désirons aussi annoncer que Lynn Lee s'est récemment jointe à notre équipe en tant que coordinatrice de la jeunesse et que Brian MacDonald et Melissa Anne Ferguson se sont aussi joints à notre groupe dans la seconde moitié de 2014 en tant que conseiller en investissement et agent de projet, respectivement. Louise Pilon continue à servir la collectivité en tant que gérante de bureau.
37-year-old racks up 25 criminal charges
A 37-year-old Cornwall man was arrested on January 19 and charged with 25 criminal code offences including threats to life, threats to property, assault, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, aggravated assault, intimidation, killing an animal and cruelty to an animal. Allegedly, between 2004 and 2014, the man was responsible for repeatedly assaulting his six children (aged newborn to 16) by way of slapping, punching, kicking and pushing, striking his children with various household items and threatened to harm them if they ever disclosed the incidents. He also allegedly threatened to burn the house down, choked one of the children, and killed a family cat with a blunt object and tried to hang a dog with his leash. On January 19, a member of the Cornwall Community Police Service located the man at his residence and took him into custody. He was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. MyQuit program launch The Honorable Ontario Associate Minister of Long-Term Care and Wellness, Dipi- ka Damerla, joined eight Eastern Ontario health partners on January 21, at the Ottawa City Hall, in order to launch the MyQuit program. The program is designed for smokers living in Eastern Ontario who are looking to quit or reduce their tobacco use. The MyQui t program is a partnership between the University of Ottawa Heart Institute; the Champlain Regional Cancer Program; Ottawa Public Health, Eastern Ontario Health Unit; Renfrew County & Dis- trict Health Unit; Leeds, Grenville & Lanark District Health Unit, Smokers’Helpline and the Mackay Manor Renfrew Residential Recovery Home Petition launched by McDonell SD&G Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) Jim McDonell began collecting sig- natures from residents of Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry for a petition aimed at stop- ping the Liberal government’s planned introduction of a Carbon Tax, despite the Premier ruling it out last June. “Local families and businesses can’t afford another tax,” said MPP Jim McDonell. “Under this Liberal government the cost of living and providing for a family and running a business has soared. A carbon tax will drive up the price of all consumer goods by making production and transportation more expensive, impacting those most in need hardest, and driving our remaining businesses out of business.” Car thief caught red-handed A man with no fixed address was caught red-handed going through parked vehi- cles. Marc Fournier, 32, was arrested on January 22 and charged with theft under $5000 and breach of probation for being under the influence of alcohol and failing to keep the peace. It is alleged that in the early morning hours of January 22, the man was spotted going through parked cars in the area of Marlborough Street and Montreal Road and po- lice were contacted to investigate. The man was located in the area by police, taken into custody and found to be in the possession of stolen property. He was charged accordingly and held for a bail hearing. Drug bust leads to charges Methamphetamine has landed a Cornwall man in deep trouble with law enforce- ment. Rene Delorme, 52, was arrested on January 21 and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession for the purpose of trafficking and breach of probation for failing to keep the peace and being in the possession of a controlled substance. It is alleged that on January 21, members of the Cornwall Community Police Service, while in the area of Third Street and Cumberland Street, acted on information that the man was in posses- sion of a controlled substance; he was taken into custody. He was found to be in possession of a controlled substance believed to be methamphetamine. New smoking ban affects many As of January 1 st , the Ontario government has put in place new regulations that will affect smokers. The new regulations that have been added to the Smoke-Free Ontario Act have made it illegal to smoke on bar and restaurant patios, on (and within 20 metres of ) playgrounds and public sports fields and surfaces. Selling tobacco on the campuses of post-secondary education institutions is now illegal as well.

Poursuivant son travail, l'organisme explorera avec FedDev et ses partenaires communautaires un modèle d'affaires renouvelé qui s'appuiera sur son portefeuille de prêts et d'investissements avec des initiatives comme le Community Futures Capital Fund et le Programme de développement de l'Est de l'Ontario (PDEO). N'hésitez pas à parler à Brian d'appui financier, à Melissa du PDEO et à Lynn d'entrepreneuriat jeunesse. Nous sommes prêts à répondre à vos besoins d'affaires, à vous écouter et à vous aiguiller vers les ressources appropriées.
