This self-paced virtual course will focus on understanding the IEP process and ways to determine if a student is receiving educational benefit. Participants will explore how the IEP process guides the development of legally compliant present levels of performance (PLOPs) as baseline indicators so that IEP goals are written for each area of need and directly linked to the baseline PLOP. Participants will learn how to establish a statement of measurable annual goals by identifying areas of educational need derived from the student’s areas of strengths and concerns. Participants will have the opportunity to view examples of both PLOPS and goals while practicing writing from the case studies provided. A brief discussion on how to link goals to the Common Core State Standards and Essential Standards will be addressed. Participants will gain an understanding of how to use data to determine whether a student has achieved growth on goals to enable a child to make progress appropriate in light of the child’s circumstances.
