of a very tough division. “All three of them were fantastic,” Lianis said. “I am so very proud of them.” Lianis de- scribed Megan’s second-place in kata with Dragon Dance as “amazing.” David came close to moving on but just missed at fifth. Lianis said his kata was exceptionally well done. Sidney’s performances kept everyone enthralled. A video of her continuous fight- ing gold medal round can be seen on the Embrun Family Karate Club facebook page, as well as thank yous to the many sponsors who helped the karate kids get to Italy. Sydney, Megan and Daavid won the spots on TeamCanada in Ottawa in May, and have been both training extensively and fund- raising for the trip since then.

Three students of the Embrun Family Ka- rate Club / Kajukenbo went to Taranto, Italy for the World Kickboxing Champi- onships, which were held from October 14 to 19, and smallest teammate Sidney MacNeill won gold in continuous fighting and silver in points fighting in her weight categories. Teammate Megan Bowman won silver in point and continuous fighting and bronze in forms. David Smith was also part of Team Canada but did not get past the elimination rounds. T-wolves lose heartbreaker

The Russell High School Timberwolves senior girls’ basketball team played a heart- breaker against Hawkesbury on October 21 at the school, losing 39-38 to the hard- hitting Kodiaks. The last quarter of play was tense, with the T-wolves ahead 38-35 going into the fourth quarter and several penalties called against both teams. The Kodiaks scored four more points, ending with one ahead with one minute left.
