The Vankleek Hill Fair to run from August 13 to 16
1844 and moved to the Vankleek Hill fairgrounds in 1872, where it remains today. The weekend-long fair is a favourite of the region, bringing visitors from far and wide. Although the exhibits and attractions in the fair have changed over the years, the favourites of the weekend have remained. This year’s theme is Growing up Green: Celebrating 100 years of 4-H in Ontario , and will run from August 13 to 16.
The fair begins with exhibition entries and judging, opening of the midway, a parade, opening of the fair by the fair marshal, musical entertainment andmore. The parade has five divisions, business,
Carter Shows and includes kids’ rides, big kids’ rides and everybody’s favourites. The fair continues with displays, shows, games, workshops, and home-cooked dinners in the dining hall. One of the crowd favourites, the demolition derby, takes place on Saturday night at 7 p.m., bringing in some very interesting cars from all over, ready to smash into one another. For more than 150 years, the agricultural fair has been coming to the Champlain region. With a parade, cattle and horse shows, horse pull, antique tractor pull, demolition derby, flower and home craft displays and exhibits, livemusic, a petting zoo, and of course the midway, there is something for everyone.
