TALENT AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT A business is only as successful as its employees. That’s why the Chamber is actively working to boost Greater Oklahoma City’s workforce so its companies have the best employees possible. The Chamber’s talent strategy takes a diverse apprach to ensuring that the region’s pipeline of workers remains strong. As the skills needed in an increasingly technology-based workplace evolve, the Chamber hopes to meet the need of ongoing training

through short-term and rapid retooling efforts, upskilling and competency-based training for existing middle-skill employees. The Chamber’s ongoing talent strategy will also help recruit talent for specialized and high-demand jobs, making sure that Oklahoma City’s businesses have the talent and resources they need to grow. The Chamber also focuses on keeping Oklahoma’s best and brightest college graduates in the region after graduation through Intern OKC , a professional development summer program that gives interns at area companies the skills they need to succeed in the workplace and the connections they need to stay in Oklahoma City for their career. With a combination of efforts that focuses on retaining college graduates, keeping Oklahoma City’s existing workers at the top of their skills and recruiting top talent to the region, the Chamber is keeping Oklahoma City competitive for the next generation and beyond.

“The Chamber helps the community find solutions to problems, increases awareness and helps educate the entire community on how to make Oklahoma City a better place.” - CATHY O’ CONNOR The Alliance For Economic Develiopment of Oklahoma City

EDUCATION The Chamber strengthens Greater Oklahoma City’s greatest asset – its students – by creating partnerships that make a better education possible for every child. In addition to advocating for legislation at the State Capitol that will positively impact the education experience, the Chamber is also actively working to support improvements of the Oklahoma City Public School District. In 2015, the Chamber was one of five founding partners of the Oklahoma City Schools Compact , an organization that seeks to create, stimulate, promote and drive community ownership of Oklahoma City Public Schools and its outcomes. Together, the Compact members have aligned their resources to tackle some of the most important challenges facing the district. The group’s Read OKC initiative has held reading challenges to create a community-wide love of reading and installed Little Free Libraries across the district to increase access to books. The group is also working to place evidence- based social and emotional learning programs in the schools that need them the most through Embrace OKC . The data- driven program created a comprehensive mental health plan that aims to reduce risk across all domains and focus on addressing high-risk behaviors, psychological stress and substance abuse. By partnering with the district to increase the educational outcomes of its students, the Chamber is helping every child in Oklahoma City have access to the type of education they deserve.
