Be part of the V I S I O N of the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber

W ith a history as vibrant as the state’s itself, the Chamber and its members are the largest coalition of businesses in the state of Oklahoma. Established shortly after the historic land run of 1889, the Chamber has been the driving force behind the

growth of Greater Oklahoma City for more than 125 years. We combine the work of an economic development organization with convention and visitors bureau , public policy advocacy , retail and community development , education initiatives, events, membership services and the traditional business networks of a Chamber. All of what we do points back to our primary mission: to be the voice of business and the visionary organization of Oklahoma City.

“The Oklahoma City Chamber does an incredible job in understanding and promoting a vision of what the City can become with the right focus and investment.” - T IMOTHY C . MORGAN HNTB Corporation

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Even before statehood, the Chamber was the driving force behind the growth of Greater Oklahoma City. Since its founding, the Chamber has been one of Oklahoma City’s strongest advocates, helping to create the city we are proud to call home. From recruiting Oklahoma City’s first major industry in 1910 and pursuing Tinker Air Force Base to locate here more than 70 years ago to launching the growth of Oklahoma City’s innovation district , the Chamber has a strong track record of doing whatever it takes to bring more jobs and more opportunity to the region. The Chamber also partners with existing businesses, community and education groups, as well as local and state governments to improve the economic foundation and quality of life in the Oklahoma City region. Chamber-led initiatives like Metropolitan Area Projects (MAPS) , Forward Oklahoma City and other strategies have moved Oklahoma City from an unknown region to a top-tier location for business and visitors. In the past five years alone, our efforts to grow our economy and industries have resulted in the addition of more than 27,000 jobs through the recruitment and expansion of more than 700 businesses.

To better serve the strategic development needs of the entire region, the Chamber leads the 10-county Greater Oklahoma City Partnership . The Partnership leverages regional economic development organizations – working to secure regional corporate locations and creating tools for local economic development professionals – developing a stronger and more diverse economy so your business can thrive.

“The Oklahoma City Thunder is a direct beneficiary of the long standing work the Chamber fosters to engage community leadership in a unified vision for economic growth. Our business performance is fueled by the continued effort of the Chamber to inspire innovation and diversity in our local economy.” - BR I AN BYRNES The Professional Basketball Club, LLC - Oklahoma City Thunder

ADVOCACY A positive business climate is essential for the growth and prosperity of Greater Oklahoma City and its companies. Our business climate represents many facets: the cost of doing business, the quality of our education system and workforce, the regulatory environment, the support from leadership, the public sector and other factors. Creating a competitive

“As chair of the transportation committee, the Chamber provided me the chance to discuss and listen to many Chamber leaders and their vision and goals for the future of transportation in our region, and then to provide input to elected officials to shoot for these goals. Poe & Associates has been an active engineering company with the Chamber for decades, and it is only natural for me keep up this tradition by staying active in the Chamber and helping mold a great Oklahoma City business climate.” - DAV I D STREB , P. E . Poe & Associates

economic climate is vital to our region’s success and the ability of our businesses to thrive is vitally important. Every day, we support our members by pursuing legislation that makes it easier and more cost-effective for businesses to succeed. An aggressive annual legislative agenda and legislative updates ensure that our most vital partners – our members – are current on the issues affecting their businesses and our economy. A key aspect of the Chamber’s work in this arena is an effective lobbying effort at the Oklahoma State Capitol. A component of that effort is the Greater OKC Chamber Political Action Committee , one of the most influential PACs in the region that strengthens the influence of Oklahoma City’s business community through the election of candidates who support our priority issues.

During each legislative session, our government relations team works on behalf of the business community to advocate for pro-business legislation and create an even stronger climate for our members to conduct business.

VISITORS A key factor of a successful economy and growing city is the vitality of the city’s visitor industry. Each year, the visitor industry in Greater Oklahoma City generates an economic impact of more than $2 billion and employs more than 32,000 people. These numbers clearly show this booming industry is a vital component of Greater Oklahoma City’s success. A division of the Chamber, the Oklahoma City Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) is dedicated to the promotion of the city as a first-class visitor destination , bolstering the region’s economic well-being through the solicitation and servicing of conventions and other related group business, as well as individual travelers. Through VisitOKC.com , the CVB helps visitors plan their trips by suggesting great options to eat, stay and see the best attractions. The staff also works with groups and meeting planners to organize events and conventions – whether they have 10 attendees or 10,000. DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION The Greater Oklahoma City Chamber believes that creating dialogue about systemic racism and taking steps to combat it in our workplaces is vital to our city’s health and future. We believe that our diversity is a source of strength, and we want to see growth and shared prosperity through diverse workforces and a strong minority-owned business community. The Chamber, through a partnership with the Urban League of Greater Oklahoma City, is seeking to build a more inclusive and diverse corporate community in Oklahoma City through: • Initiating a business community conversation on anti-racism through our Creating a Culture of Inclusion event series. • Developing an annual research publication that tracks and reports on diversity and economic equality in Oklahoma City. • Establishing a diversity council of executives to examine the data and determine a strategy to make Oklahoma City a more diverse and inclusive place. • Creating leadership and mentorship programs to grow and invest in Oklahoma talent. • Increasing minority supplier development and minority employment

TALENT AND WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT A business is only as successful as its employees. That’s why the Chamber is actively working to boost Greater Oklahoma City’s workforce so its companies have the best employees possible. The Chamber’s talent strategy takes a diverse apprach to ensuring that the region’s pipeline of workers remains strong. As the skills needed in an increasingly technology-based workplace evolve, the Chamber hopes to meet the need of ongoing training

through short-term and rapid retooling efforts, upskilling and competency-based training for existing middle-skill employees. The Chamber’s ongoing talent strategy will also help recruit talent for specialized and high-demand jobs, making sure that Oklahoma City’s businesses have the talent and resources they need to grow. The Chamber also focuses on keeping Oklahoma’s best and brightest college graduates in the region after graduation through Intern OKC , a professional development summer program that gives interns at area companies the skills they need to succeed in the workplace and the connections they need to stay in Oklahoma City for their career. With a combination of efforts that focuses on retaining college graduates, keeping Oklahoma City’s existing workers at the top of their skills and recruiting top talent to the region, the Chamber is keeping Oklahoma City competitive for the next generation and beyond.

“The Chamber helps the community find solutions to problems, increases awareness and helps educate the entire community on how to make Oklahoma City a better place.” - CATHY O’ CONNOR The Alliance For Economic Develiopment of Oklahoma City

EDUCATION The Chamber strengthens Greater Oklahoma City’s greatest asset – its students – by creating partnerships that make a better education possible for every child. In addition to advocating for legislation at the State Capitol that will positively impact the education experience, the Chamber is also actively working to support improvements of the Oklahoma City Public School District. In 2015, the Chamber was one of five founding partners of the Oklahoma City Schools Compact , an organization that seeks to create, stimulate, promote and drive community ownership of Oklahoma City Public Schools and its outcomes. Together, the Compact members have aligned their resources to tackle some of the most important challenges facing the district. The group’s Read OKC initiative has held reading challenges to create a community-wide love of reading and installed Little Free Libraries across the district to increase access to books. The group is also working to place evidence- based social and emotional learning programs in the schools that need them the most through Embrace OKC . The data- driven program created a comprehensive mental health plan that aims to reduce risk across all domains and focus on addressing high-risk behaviors, psychological stress and substance abuse. By partnering with the district to increase the educational outcomes of its students, the Chamber is helping every child in Oklahoma City have access to the type of education they deserve.
