Acting in a wholesale capacity, Stuart Kitchens provides material, plus design and installation services, to residential homeowners, builders and remodelers in three states as well as the District of Columbia. A distinguishing aspect of Stuart Kitchens is the breadth of their offerings, being able to accommodate all customers’ needs across the economic spectrum. “In earlier years, supplier lead times were longer and less dependable, so we had to warehouse much of what we
sold. Improvements in information technology and the subsequent upgrading of logistics eliminated the need for warehousing stocks of material,” explained Karen Hoff, general manager. “Warehousing is still an important part of what we do. On any given job, we bring in material from different suppliers, shrink wrap and palletize it, then when everything is on hand, make the delivery to the customer using our own trucks and employees. Supplier lead times and reliability have improved so much that we no longer
need to stockpile goods. Instead, our warehouse has become a transit point for goods on the way to the customer.” Stuart Kitchens’ space in Timonium serves another important purpose. Homeowners, whether buying direct or via one of their builder/remodeler customers, need to see what their kitchen and/or bathroom will look like. A first-class showroom is essential for this purpose. For that reason, and with St. John Properties help, Stuart Kitchens has just finished a complete showroom renovation, including new floors, ceilings, lighting and of course, new displays. “It is now by far the finest showroom in the Baltimore area,” said Hoff. Previously an industrial business area, “St. John Properties made a substantial upgrade, so today the whole area is livelier, more retail-oriented, and a better setting for our showroom. The warehouse and showroom are ideal for Stuart Kitchens’ purposes,” Hoff said. “We are a very happy tenant, and expect to remain in our space for many years to come.”
