HOMETOWN ROOTS TO COURTROOM ADVOCACY Madison Is Back in Beaumont, Helping Clients When It Matters Most
If you had asked me years ago where I saw myself practicing law, I might not have had a clear answer, but somehow, ending up back where it all began feels right. I’m Madison Chilton, and I joined Brasher Law as an associate attorney in March 2026. Coming back to this community feels like a full-circle moment, one that brings me closer to my family and my roots. It’s a chance to serve the community that shaped me and to do meaningful work alongside people I’ve known for much of my life. When I look back at how it all started, I think of how I simply wanted to understand how things work: how decisions are made, how systems impact people, and how change can happen. I studied political science and spent time interning in government, exploring those big-picture questions. But over time, I realized that what truly drew me in wasn’t policy, but people. I saw how attorneys could step
My background in civil rights and employment law naturally led me to personal injury and bad faith insurance work. At the heart of all of it is the same idea: standing up for people who feel like the odds are stacked against them. There’s something deeply important about holding companies accountable, especially when someone has done everything right and still isn’t being treated fairly. That sense of fairness, of making sure people are heard and respected, is what drives me every day. I’ve also come to see success a little differently than I once did. It’s not just about the final result, but it’s also the journey getting there. Did we stay true to the facts? Did we advocate with integrity? And most importantly, did we help our client feel more secure, more grounded, and more able to move forward than when they first came to us? If the answer is yes, that’s a meaningful outcome. When I step away from the office, I find balance in music and family. I’m one of seven kids, and time together often means singing, playing instruments, and enjoying those simple, familiar moments. I’ve played piano most of my life and recently started learning guitar, something I love because you can take it anywhere. Music gives me a way to reset, to use a different part of my mind, and to reconnect with what matters most. If there’s one thing I hope people take away, it’s this: You’re not expected to have all the answers when life takes an unexpected turn. None of us are. There’s strength in reaching out, in asking questions, in letting someone help guide you through the unknown. That’s why we’re here, to walk alongside you, help you find your footing again, and remind you that even in difficult moments, you don’t have to face them alone. –Madison Chilton
into someone’s life at a moment of uncertainty or crisis and offer not just legal guidance, but reassurance and direction when they need it most. That’s the part of this work that stays with me. Most of the clients we meet didn’t plan to need a lawyer. They’re dealing with something unexpected, be it a car wreck, a storm, or a loss, and suddenly they’re expected to navigate a system they’ve never encountered before. It can feel overwhelming. My goal is to help steady that moment. To take something complicated and make it understandable. To be someone they can rely on when everything else feels uncertain.

Make This Father’s Day an Adventure to Remember TREASURE OVER TIES This Father’s Day, if you really want to wow him, skip the tie and give good ol’ dad a mission instead. A scavenger hunt turns every room into a game and every clue into a fun, bonding opportunity. Watching him search high and low is basically a dad joke in motion, where everyone gets to laugh along until he finds the paternal prize! CURATED CLUES The best part of creating your own Father’s Day scavenger hunt is that you can customize it based on his interests and personality. Think about how long you want the event to last and what kind of prize you want to reveal after he’s figured out every clue. Create clues that will puzzle him enough to keep it challenging, but show off just how well you know him. Each clue he finds around the house should prompt him to find the location of the next one. THEMED TREASURES You can make your hunt special by choosing a theme. You could have every clue lead him to one of his favorite things, like the shirt he always wears, his toolbox, or something hidden in his armchair. The clues themselves can become keepsakes if the kids paint them on rocks to hide, or you make a framed collage of them later. Technology can take your dad’s quest into the future if you utilize QR codes for clues or require him to snap a selfie after each find. Remember, this game is in his honor, so let what makes him unique guide every clue you create. PERFECT PRIZES Like any Father’s Day gift, the big reveal should end in a prize he will treasure. While the last clue could lead to the item at the top of his wish list, you could also gift him a memorable experience. If he loves fishing, his prize could be a family day out at the lake. You could all pitch in to cook him a tasty meal, or lead him to a map where you have circled the hiking trail you will take him on. This year, test out your dad’s puzzle-solving skills and create memories with his own special scavenger hunt. It’s a gift the whole family will treasure long after he’s figured out the final clue.
What You Do After an Accident Can Make or Break Your Case PROTECT YOURSELF NOW, THANK YOURSELF LATER A car accident can turn an ordinary day upside down in seconds. Once everyone is safe, one of the most important steps you can take is capturing what happened. Strong documentation can make the difference between a smooth insurance process and a complicated legal battle. CAPTURE THE SCENE CLEARLY. Your phone is one of your most powerful tools after an accident. Take clear photos of the scene from multiple angles, including vehicle damage, road conditions, traffic signals, and any visible injuries. Short videos can provide even more context, capturing movement, sounds, and details that still images might miss. If your vehicle or nearby businesses have cameras, try to secure the footage as soon as possible, as many systems automatically delete recordings within days. DON’T OVERLOOK WITNESSES. People who saw the accident occur can provide valuable, unbiased perspectives. If anyone nearby witnessed the incident, politely ask for their contact information and a brief statement of what they saw. Their input can help confirm key details and strengthen your version of events if questions arise later. WRITE IT DOWN WHILE IT’S FRESH. Memories fade quickly, especially after a stressful event. As soon as you can, jot down everything you remember: how the accident happened, weather conditions, and anything unusual you noticed. Even small details can become important later. Voice notes can also be helpful if writing isn’t convenient in the moment. KEEP TRACK OF INJURIES AND CARE. Medical documentation plays a critical role in any personal injury claim. Save records of doctor visits, treatments, prescriptions, and expenses. It’s also helpful to note how you feel in the days and weeks after the accident, including your pain levels and any changes in daily activities. PROTECT EVIDENCE AND ORGANIZE EVERYTHING. Gather supporting materials, including the police report, repair estimates, and any communications with insurance companies. Store copies in a safe place and back up digital files to ensure nothing is lost. Also, avoid repairing your vehicle right away unless necessary, as the damage itself can serve as important evidence. BUILD A STRONG FOUNDATION FOR YOUR CASE. Well-preserved evidence helps tell the full story of what happened. It supports your claim, protects your rights, and gives your legal team the tools they need to pursue the best possible outcome. When it comes to an accident, preparation and documentation can make all the difference.

THE COSTLIEST HURRICANE MISTAKES SMALL BUSINESSES MAKE Before the Storm Hits, Make Sure Your Business Is Protected
Hurricane season doesn’t give much warning, and for small- business owners, that can mean the difference between a temporary setback and a lasting loss. The smartest time to prepare is long before a storm ever forms. BUILD A STRONG FOUNDATION BEFORE A STORM. Preparation starts well in advance. A few strategic moves can significantly reduce risk and downtime: • Back up critical data regularly and store it somewhere accessible outside your physical location • Review your insurance policy carefully to understand what is and isn’t covered • Create a communication plan for employees, customers, and vendors • Prepare an emergency kit with essentials like water, food, first aid supplies, and lighting These steps may seem simple, but they can make a major difference when time is limited. ACT FAST WHEN A STORM IS IN THE FORECAST. Once a hurricane is announced, preparation shifts into action. This is the time to secure your property and minimize potential damage:
• Bring in or secure outdoor items that could become dangerous in high winds • Protect windows and doors to reduce the risk of interior damage • Shut down utilities when appropriate to help prevent fires or equipment damage • Fuel vehicles and generators so you’re ready for power outages • Set aside cash and supplies for immediate post-storm needs Quick, thoughtful action during this stage can help limit both physical damage and operational disruption. KEEP SAFETY THE NO. 1 PRIORITY. If evacuation orders are issued, they should be taken seriously. No property is worth risking lives. If you or your team remain on-site during severe weather, stay in designated safe areas and rely on your emergency supplies. Clear communication and preparation help reduce panic and keep everyone focused on safety. WHEN THE STORM PASSES, THE CHALLENGES CONTINUE. Even the best preparation can’t prevent every loss. When it’s time to file an insurance claim, many business owners expect support, but instead encounter delays, low payouts, or unexpected denials. This is where documentation and persistence matter. Keeping records, photos, and receipts can strengthen your position if your claim is questioned. If your insurance company isn’t honoring your policy, you have options. When a storm damages your property, you can contact our experienced legal team to help ensure your claim is handled fairly.

What to Do When Temperatures Spike
BEAT THE HEAT
Simple Steps to Stay Cool and Safe This Summer
The summer months can get incredibly hot, and this year may be even hotter. Environment and Climate Change Canada predicted that this summer could be one of the four hottest years ever recorded. As each day passes, their prediction becomes increasingly realistic. If you or your kids are planning to spend some
time outdoors over the next few months, you need to take steps to protect yourselves! Hydration is key during the summer. Don’t wait until you feel thirsty; drink plenty of water around the clock. Avoid drinking beverages with large amounts of alcohol, caffeine, or sugar, as they dehydrate you. Whenever you head outside, whether it’s to garden, play with the kids, or walk the dog, bring a water bottle. Even when you’re just driving around town, it’s a good idea to bring water in case you break down and have to walk to get help. Before heading outside, take precautions to protect your skin and avoid heat stroke. Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing, and throw on a wide-brimmed hat to protect your head. Sunscreen is also a must, even on days that aren’t overly sunny. If you’re going to be physically active outdoors, make sure you do
so only in the mornings and evenings. Working too hard during the peak of the day’s heat will quickly exhaust you. You can even implement home practices to help cool your house down. Avoid using your stove or oven when cooking meals, take cooler showers, and apply weatherstripping to doors and windows to help keep cool air inside. You should also cover any large windows with curtains or shades to keep the heat out. Most importantly, if you drive anywhere with your kids or pets, don’t leave them in the car. Your vehicle can reach dangerous temperatures quickly, even if the windows are down. It’s never worth the risk! We don’t have to feel sticky and hot all summer long. With the right strategies, we can stay cool and make the most of the next few months.
