ED IT O R 'S NOTE: Mrs. Betty Bruechert, former Editor of the King's Business, has been re quested to compile a series of informative articles on the history of this 50-vear-old publication. This month: "T h e Contributors." issued January 1, 1910, The King’s Business came into being at a most strategic period in the his tory of the church. The fabulous twentieth century had ushered in most remarkable interdenominational movements. Bible Institutes were established; Bible, missionary and prophetic conferences were conducted in many denominations; “ faith” mis sion boards were organized. Not only was there unusual effort expended in reaching the unsaved for Christ, but also there was unprecedented interest expressed in escatology. Church and Gospel tents were crowded to capacity with Christians desiring to know what the Word of God had to say about the rapture, the revelation, the tribulation and the millennium. From its inception, The King’s Business became a channel for the unequivocal declaration of orthodox, fundamental Bible truth, and a list of its contributors is synonymous with a roster of the outstanding evangelical leaders of the church of that day. Space permits the mention of only a partial index of the authors for the first five years, but they set the pace for the contents that were to charac terize the magazine for all time. The first three editors •—■R. A. Torrey, J. H. Sammis and T. C. Horton ■— not only produced outstanding editorials but from their pens flowed a continu ous stream of Bible teaching. A glance at the contributors for 1910-1915 re veals such distinguished names as t h o s e o f Jame s H. Brookes, I. M. Haldeman, J. H. Jowett, G. F. Pente cost, Robert A. Hadden, A. T. Pierson, Philip Mauro, Sir Robertson Nicoll, John Robertson, D. L. Moody, A. J. Pollock, W. B. Riley, C. R. Erdman, James H. McConkey, Robert E. Speer, Mark Matthews, John H. Hunter, R. H. Glover, W. R. Newell, A. J. Gor don, Samuel J. Andrews, Jonathan Goforth, A. C. Dixon, C. I. Scofield, W. P. Nicholson, Chas. E. Hurlburt, C. T . S t u d d , H e n r y W . Fr o s t , G. W. Truett, William Evans, W. B. Hinson and Nathaniel West. Their subjects covered every facet of doc trine, prophecy, the Christian life, missions and false systems of religion. In this column from time to time we shall reproduce some of these worthwhile, intriguing articles, to mark the 1960 Golden Jubilee of The K i n g ’ s B u s i n e s s . i r s t
