Poetry: The Narwhal

Drifting through the blue, Silently cruising the ocean flux, A u-boat, searching for unexpected prey, Solitary, alone, Seeking subsistence

In the frozen waste, Haunting the shark’s highway, a glistening, primeval being, A phantom made flesh, an ivory fang, Lightning bright, fast as light, Searching. Into the savage depths, The old squaw was swallowed, Revenge came wrapped in trust and deceit: A blind harpoon throw, and the creature’s impulse Conspired, to end an age of torment.

So that salt encrusted body, with locks long as serpents, Twisted and turned, a ferocious frenzy, Until, fused as one, the blonde tresses stiffened To form that lethal needle, sharp as a dagger, For killing. Narwhal. Silent, stealthy, lean, glides effortlessly Through the seaways, weaving quietly through The ice-filled water, Stalking a shoal of scarlet, shimmering fish, Then strike with its glowing grapnel. Hunted.

Hair and blubber, screams and song, Desperation and spiteful rage entwined to subsist;

She was too enraged, too cruel to die Beneath the melting, shimmering ice, The creature’s locale.

History: The Lost Nazi Gold Train

The Nazi gold train, also known as the Walbrzych gold train, is the subject of a legend from the Nazi German era train. It is rumoured to be filled with gold and gems and is believed to have gone missing near the Polish city of Wroclaw as the Soviet forces advanced in 1945. A law firm in South-West Poland says it has been

contacted by two men who are believed to have discovered the armoured train. Local news websites say the supposed find matches local folklore of a train carrying gold and gems that went missing at the end of World War 2 near Ksiaz Castle, which is 2 miles (3km) away from the law firm that was contacted about the train. Nobody is really sure about the legendary gold train. Although evidence shows that the train is real, they aren’t sure about whether or not it contains the gold. An historian

who focuses on the Walbrzych area told the local radio station that the train is rumoured to have disappeared in a tunnel, and that it has gold and ‘hazardous materials’ on board. Previous searches for the train have come up with nothing, the local radio has said.
