22 Aligned with the organization’s mission • “NSBE is an organization that embodies the capabilities of minorities especially those at PWI’s. Being able to establish our presence and be known for the great work we do both in the classroom and community shows the efforts we will go to make our world more sustainable.” • “NSBE has made my college experience as amazing as it has been. They were my first friends grown family, my study buddies, my support system, my advisor and mentor, and my professional connoisseur. The mission of NSBE is something I live by and strive to achieve every day. I appreciate the professionalism, leadership, and open mindedness that NSBE has taught me and I hope everyone can have that same experience.” • “I feel a personal connection to the goal of NSBE and as a member, it is a duty to the community to recruit more people into the society.”
6 Assistance with Career Advancement • “I don’t believe that the organization is truly fulfilling its promise or potential specifically because it has lost its direction. Because of that, I’m hesitant to recommend membership for anything beyond the career fair opportunities available. We have given up on leadership development, but in my opinion I think that is our most impactful core competency.” • “I still have hope, though, and that’s why I can’t give a response that falls below 6. If I were to rate our current status in a bubble, though, it might be a 3.” • “For students it’s a great networking organization and the career fairs are awesome.”
15 Lack Support for Economically Disadvantaged JR Members • “NSBE is not for everyone, basically if you are in college NSBE is a good source for networking and finding a job or career. if you are in middle or high school and have the resources you can build your resume for college by competing in the competitions. I want to emphasize resources because NSBE provides no support to NSBE jr.chapters. Subsequently students who have talent and Drive if they are economically disadvantage they will most likely not get an opportunity!” • “1. I wish NSBE had better support for NSBE, Jr chapters and its’ young members. College is too late to really get students interested and on the right path academically to pursue degrees in engineering and STEM especially if the middle and HS aren’t preparing them in math. M” • “There is not enough guidance and inclusion for the NSBE Jr. chapters”
