Al Majlis - Forums of Exchange In في زمن أصبح فيه اقتصاد التّصميم العالمي سباقًا نحو الســــــرعة والانتشــــــار، فيما تُختزل الاستدامة غالبًا في خطاب تسويقي سطحي، اختار “مجلس إرثــــــي للحِــــــرَف المعاصرة” في الشــــــارقة مســــــارًا مغايرًا تمامًا؛ مســــــارًا يقوم علــــــى البحث، والرواية الشــــــخصية، والإصغاء المتأنّــــــي إلى الإبداع الغني الذي تنسجه أيادي النساء. في إمارة الشارقة تحت 2015 تأسّس “إرثي” عام رعاية سمو الشــــــيخة جواهر بنت محمد القاسمي، ليكون مؤسّســــــة تُعنى بصون الحِــــــرَف التقليدية الإماراتية وحمايــــــة التقاليد المرتبطــــــة بها. وبعد عقد مــــــن الزمن، تحــــــوّل إلى منصّــــــة دولية تُعيد نســــــج العلاقة بين الحِرَف الأصيلة والعمل اليدوي والقيمة الثقافية. وفي صميم رؤيته طرح واضح: أن الحِرَف التقليدية ليســــــت بقايــــــا ماض آفل، بل أنظمة معرفة حيّة قادرة على صون ســــــبل العيش والتأثير في لغات التصميم المقبلة. In a global design economy increasingly preoccupied with speed, scale and surface-level sustainability, Sharjah-based Irthi Con- temporary Crafts Council has taken a markedly different path - one grounded in research, authorship and the rich creativity of women’s hands. Founded in 2015 under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Irthi is a Sharjah-based organisation dedicated to preserving traditional Emirati crafts and safeguarding Emirati traditions. A decade on, it has evolved into a transformative international platform reshaping how indigenous craft, labour and cultural value intersect. At its core lies a clear proposition: that traditional crafts are not remnants of a fading past but living knowledge systems capable of sustaining livelihoods and influencing the design languages of tomorrow. Central to this transformation is Her Excellency Reem Bin Karam, Director General of Irthi, whose leadership has ex- panded the Council’s remit far beyond preservation. الحرفيّات الإماراتيات والإقليميات، وتُرســــــي هياكل تســــــعير أكثر عدلاً، وترسّــــــخ حضورهن بوصفهن شــــــريكات في الابتكار داخل حــــــوارات التّصميم العالميّة؛ من أســــــبوع ميلانو للتصميم إلى حدث “ديزاين ميامي”، وصولا إلى تعاونات مع دور عريقة مثل بولغاري وكارتييه. وبموازاة هذه المشــــــاركات البارزة، شيّد “إرثي” بنية عمل متينة تقوم على البحث الإثنوغرافي، ومنصّات التعلّم الرقمي، ومسارات التبادل العابرة للمناطق. كما أسّس لنموذج من الاندماج الأخلاقي في الأســــــواق، ضمن إطار يضع الحِرَفيّات في موقع الملكيّة الإبداعية الكاملة، ويُرسّخ حقهن في اتّخاذ القرار والتحكّم بمسار أعمالهنّ. بمرور عشــــــرة أعوام على تأسيسه، يبرهن نموذجه 2025 ومع احتفاء “إرثي” عام بوضوح أن الحِرَف ليســــــت مجرد تعبير ثقافي رمزي، بل رافعة اقتصادية حقيقية أيضًا. ففي مطلع هذا العام، أزاح المجلس في الشــــــارقة الستار عن مجموعة “قلب كريم” للمجوهرات، التي طُوّرت بإشراف سعادة ريم بن كرم، وبالتعاون مع مؤسسة “القلب الكبير” في دولة الإمارات ودار “أسبري” البريطانية العريقة.
women to access international markets directly, establish fairer pricing structures, and claim their place as co-creators within global design conversations - from Milan Design Week to Design Miami, and through collaborations with houses such as Bulgari and Cartier. Alongside these high-profile engagements, Irthi has built a ro- bust infrastructure of ethnographic research, digital learning platforms, cross-regional exchanges and ethical market integra- tion, all anchored in a framework that places women artisans’ authorship and agency at the forefront. As Irthi marks its tenth anniversary in 2025, its model contin- ues to demonstrate how craft can function simultaneously as cultural expression and economic engine. Earlier this year, the Council unveiled the Precious Heart jewellery collection in Sharjah, developed under the guidance of HE Reem Bin Karam in collab- oration with the UAE’s Big Heart Foundation and British luxury house Asprey.
