Congratulations to all of the CWGOers who made it to the 2017 Army Navy Women’s Stroke Play Championship: E.R. Anderson, Angie Baskette, Shelley Savage, Jill VanTine and the overall winner Shelley Sanders! It was a tight championship that went to the 19th hole in a playoff with E.R. Anderson. It’s that time of year to start planning for our next golf season. Each year half of our CWGO Board of Directors positions turn over while the other Board members finish out their second terms. The positions up for election in the upcoming year are: Secretary (2 year term), Events Co-Chair (2 year term) and Vice President (moves up to President in year 2). If you would like to be a part of next year’s board to shape the way we run events or other aspects of the group, we hope you will consider stepping forward for one of these positions. While the end of the 2017 season is fast approaching, we still have several tournaments on the schedule. The MJ Major is October 21 at Arlington and the last tournament, the Leaf Rule Scramble, is on November 4 at Arlington. We also have two more Saturday play dates – October 7 at Fairfax and October 14 at Arlington. We close out the year with our End of Year dinner on November 8 at Arlington. In Interclub news, Belmont defeated Mount Vernon on September 10, making ANCC the Division II winner by 6 points! ANCC will now play Hidden Creek in the Championship Match. What’s interesting is how tight Division I was. Only 3.5 points separated the first through fourth teams, Hidden Creek nosed out Chantilly by one point.

Less than a 100 shopping days until Christmas! Please remember that ALL Golf Shop gift certificates and credits on member’s credit book must be redeemed by December 31, 2017. Any certificate or credit not used by this date will be void and discarded.

mats wilander

ANCC is pleased to host the return of Mats Wilander, a seven time Grand Slam Champion and former world ranked number one player on Thursday, 2 November. We are in the process of setting up several very small group clinics (4 per court) where our members will get exclusive coaching and instruction followed by lunch with Mats. Our pros worked on-court with Mats last year and will all attest that the experience is a once- in-a-lifetime one -- to be on court hitting with and being coached by one of the greatest players to have ever played the game. Spaces will be very limited. A follow-up email will be sent later this month with signup and pricing information. In the meantime, please speak to any of our pros if you want to learn more about this experience.

Our 2017 series of Club Championship Tournaments finishes this Fall. Please contact Pro Neil Bennett if you need assistance entering the Senior Doubles on Saturday, 7 October .

AQUATICS

The Aquatic Staff would like to thank all Members for another great season. A special thank you to all our instructors. Suzy Thompson and Mariane Rowland were a huge hit as our Water Aerobics instructors! They look forward to seeing everyone next summer. Thanks are also due to Sarah and Shelby Hodgkins for teaching the future swimmers of our club. We would also like to recognize all our Swim and Dive Team Coaches and Aquatic Committee Members who worked tirelessly through another successful competitive season. Both teams ended the season on a high note with the Swim Team placing 2nd at Champs and the Dive Team placing 3rd. In recognition of raising the most contributions for the Yellow Ribbon Aquathon, Isabelle and Emilie Vivarelli were given the honor of presenting the Yellow Ribbon Fund with the donations collected by the Swim and Dive Team. This year was a record breaking year with $7,338 in donations! The Vivarelli sisters were invited to a Yellow Ribbon Fund event at Walter Reed where they were able to meet some of the families who benefit from the assistance of the Yellow Ribbon Fund. Despite having to postpone the event, The Lego Batman Movie Family Night at the Pool was a big success bringing in more in attendance than had registered! Thank you to all who participated. We hope you enjoyed the show!

until next season!

ANCC Foundation Did You Know?

The epic flooding in Texas resulting from Hurricane “Harvey” impacted Northern Virginia in the form of high gasoline prices resulting from the shut-down of several Houston area refineries and the Colonial Pipeline. This pipeline, which has been called “the Mississippi River of fuels” runs from Houston, Texas (where it serves 30 refineries) to Linden, New Jersey (Port of New York). The fuel farm to the right of the Blue nine’s seventh hole at Fairfax is one of the distribution sites along the pipeline and handles some 40 percent of the gasoline distributed in Northern Virginia. For more information on the history of the Colonial Pipeline, and the ANCC Foundation’s efforts to publicize and memorialize this and all facets of the Club’s history, please click here .
