THE BIBLE INSTITUTE OF LOS ANGELES

tute should have a knowledge of English grammar, but there are many men and women who can be of great use in teaching and preaching the Word, whose knowledge of English is very elementary and inaccurate. We do not exclude such from the advantages of the Bible Institute, but they are not awarded the diploma, unless they shall have secured a good and accurate working knowledge of modern English. The instruc tion in English given in the Institute is of a most practical character, not by a theoretical study of Engli sh grammar, which so many students in this day master and then are not able to speak good English, but by the preparation of papers on various assigned subjects, and by public speaking, accom panied by thorough criticism of papers and public address. The English Bible is the one peerless masterpiece of pure, forceful English and the students will be persistently trained to use pure, vigorous, Bible English. XXIII. Gospel Music The Music Course is very practical, making it possible to obtain a knowledge of gospel music from every standpoint. It is especially designed to thoroughly equip the evangeli stic singer, choir leader and Sunday School worker, organist, pianists and music teachers. The course,includes the Theory of Music, Harmony, Com position, Sight Singing, Men's, Women's and Mixed Chorus work, Voice Placing; and Solo Singing, Conducting and Nor mal Training. Many opportuni ties present themselves at the Missions and Churches and Sunday Schools of the city for practical application of a ll the theoretical work of the class room. Stu dents are assigned regularly to these different places as a part of their school work. When confidence and abi lity are ac quired, positions as choir leaders can generally be secured for such students and there is conti nually a call for evangeli stic singers, who are really proficient. For private instruction in voice culture, piano and organ there is a slight charge for lessons. Lectures are delivered from time to time on the following practical sub jects: Music in Sunday Services, Sunday School and Prayer Meeting; The Organization and Conduct of Choirs;
