FTA Forms ‘Women of Flexo’ Committee Following a successful meeting at FORUM 2019 in May and a leadership meeting at Fall Conference 2019 in October, FTA has announced the formation of the Women of Flexo Committee. Dr. Nona Woolbright of Clemson University and Jennye Scott of Berry Global will co-chair the committee, which will work to fur- ther support and promote women in the flexographic industry through a variety of opportunities. The Ecoflex plant opened after more than two years of intensive preparations.Test runs started in Septem- ber 2019. AWT Labels & Packaging Bill Denzen has joined AWT Labels & Packaging as Vice President of Operations. Denzen has more than 28 years of experience in the printing industry, with most of that time spent in flexographic printing op- erations management. Denzen also brings with him extensive experience in finance and lean manufacturing methodology.
Denzen’s responsibilities at AWT will include operations management, business strategy development, sup- port of sales and marketing strategies, and continuous improvement efforts. He is based at AWT’s headquarters in Minneapolis, Minneapolis, and joined the company in September 2019. Label Technology serves a wide range of industries, including the food, natural products, nutraceutical, cosmetic and health and beauty end markets. Fortis employs more than 700 employees across 13 sites. Flex Pack SAS installed FlexoWash technology at its plant in Bogota, Colombia, to help improve the quali- ty of work being produced on its two flexo printing presses. Founded in 2001 and still owned and man- aged by Carlos Alberto González and his wife Maribel Jácome, the company is vertically integrated offering a variety of services in-house from extrusion to rolling, printing, and valve inserting. Currently around 90 per- cent of all output is printed, and then supplied to mar- kets as diverse as food and beverage, household goods, and medical supplies. Following a visit to Labelexpo in Chicago, Illinois, and a meeting with the Flexo Wash team, the decision was made to invest in a PW82WR PlateWasher and an FW992XL AniloxWasher. A group of associations, educators and industry rep- resentatives formed the Graphic Communications Workforce Coalition . As stated in its organizing documents, “The purpose of the coalition will be to coordinate the efforts of all organizations represent- ing the broad scope of the graphic communications industry for creating awareness, recruitment of new people into the industry,providing a framework for ap- prenticeship and training programs, and the retention of the existing workforce. By combining the separate efforts, experiences and initiatives of various organi- zations, coordinating actions and the sharing of ideas and resources, it is expected that all will benefit.”This new initiative will address the number one issue that faces the industry today: recruitment, retention and training of its workforce. Kodak, Uteco Sell First-Ever Ultrastream-Powered Press Kodak is introducing its ULTRASTREAM technology in the NEW UTECO Sapphire EVOW, the first flexible packaging press to enter the market using Kodak’s lat- est continuous inkjet technology. The first ULTRASTREAM system with a print width of 1.25 meters has been sold into the market in ad- vance of its expected debut at drupa 2020 in Dussel- dorf, Germany, with a healthy pipeline of active pros- pects, according to the company. The wide format of the new Sapphire EVO W allows brands to leverage digital printing in their traditional flexographic print formats.
