VILLENEUVE-SINCLAIR LAUNCHES NEW NOVEL

ALEXIA MARSILLO alexia.marsillo@eap.on.ca

Alberte Villeneuve-Sinclair’s sixth novel will be officially launched at the Russell Public Library on Saturday, March 24. Villeneuve-Sinclair, who is from Beckett Creek, in between Cumberland and Rockland, and who now lives in Vars, has just published Muses from the Blue Shack . This most recent work, published with Baico Publishing and Distribution, is different from her other novels, as it is an anthology of articles she has written. This idea arose when Villeneuve-Sinclair began writing articles for the True North Perspective. Some of the articles included in Muses from the Blue Shack are from her time there. Others were published in Canaan Connexion and in Perspectives Vanier, which she currently writes for. “I started to write these in 2009 and I’m still writing, so I have enough for maybe five anthologies,” said Villeneuve-Sinclair. “I have no plan to stop.” This anthology has been a project of hers for several years now, but kept taking the backburner to other projects, such as doing presentations for students in schools or writing and translating her novel Le génie de Jessie. Villeneuve-Sinclair writes originally in either French or English, and usually always translates her work into the other language afterwards. The theme of most of her work

is violence against women and to those women who are suffering silently – “because I lived it, my first marriage was very difficult,” she explained. She wrote her first novel, Le jardin negligé, seven years after his death and has not stopped since – “I still have things to say.” Her work also focuses very much on love, as do many of her articles in Muses from the Blue Shack . One article dear to her heart, entitled “Remembering Grandpa”, recounts her second husband, who died in 2003, with whom she had one daughter and six grandchildren. “[My message is] be honest about life,” she added. “Life is not always easy. The first article in Muses from Blue Shack is called ‘To love and be loved not only on Valentine’s Day’, because love is complica- ted.” Villeneuve-Sinclair hopes to continue spreading that message with more antho- logies to come.
